Police are happy to announce this afternoon that officers in downtown rescued a 4-month-old baby from a woman, who was "frantically waving" a steak knife on 7th Street, near Hope, this morning.

We all know that Schwarzenegger loves Twittering and yesterday he uploaded a short TwitVid that began with him holding a very large knife, apparently a metaphor for his budget cuts. Har, har! As of 11 a.m., it's received over 100,000 views.

32-year-old Diana Rodriguez was arrested last week for her part in a stabbing stemming from a case of love gone wrong. But it wasn't her love that made her pick up that knife with the four-inch serrated blade and stab three women--it was the love lost between her 12-year-old-son and his 12-year-old ex-girlfriend.

USC Vice President for Student Affairs, Michael L. Jackson, sent this e-mail alert out to students this morning:

A 22-year-old USC student died of stabbing wounds in the hospital this morning after a fight a few blocks north of campus. The student and two others were walking near 28th Street and Orchard Avenue when another man approached and began an argument with him for unknown reasons. The argument escalated resulting in the stabbing (Update: The student has been identified, read on here.)

LAPD Officers checking the welfare of a man on the street shot and killed him after he allegedly lunged at them with a knife. While on patrol around 4 a.m., officers spotted a man lying on the ground in an alcove and stopped to check on his well-being.
