Whether or not the movie Hard Candy frightens you is going to depend entirely on whether or not you have testicles. My male friends cringed throughout this movie and tell me it scared the hell out of them. I had an entirely different experience. It was the first thriller I have ever watched without being frightened. The entirety of the film is based on the interplay between two characters alone together in an isolated house. The male character might be a child molester and pornographer. Or he might not. The young girl may just be totally batshit. I don't want to give too much away, because much of the suspense hinges on uncertainty. But I have become so used to watching women get victimized, that it was kind of refreshing to see the tables turned. I even caught myself rooting for the girl as I questioned her sanity. Does that make me a bad person?

- According to the LA Times, people who live next to trains and subways do not use them. - Eek! I don't speak Japanese, but this appears to be a trailer for Ekusute, an awesome-looking horror movie starring Chiaki Kuriyama (Battle Royale, Kill Bill) about cursed hair extensions that attack the people who wear them. Insert joke about bad hair days.

Valentines Day is in just mere hours and for those of us who want to celebrate the holiday in true love fashion here is a short list of love or anti-love movies, perfect or the occasion. No Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts here.

Like most other movie goers this weekend, we saw Sin City. We loved it. As unashamed comic book nerds, the idea of a direct graphic novel adaptation of the Frank Miller classics was simply spectacular to watch. Cinematical thinks "The Hard Goodbye" was the best of the stories and we agree although it did run a little longer than necessary. We can forgive that though because of Carla Gugino. Mmmm, Carla Gugino. We're highly recommending the flick, particularly if you're a fan of low plot, high action, comic style storytelling. Think Kill Bill on acid and with a lot more focus on one style.
