When José Maldonado exited his parked car Monday afternoon, knife in hand and a t-shirt partially cover his face, to try to kidnap an juvenile girl walking home, he probably didn't expect her to fight back. He also probably didn't realize her father was down the street running towards them. So he stopped and drove away before anything serious happened.

A father in a custody dispute over his 10-year-old child forcefully took the boy from his school last week and the two of them have not been seen since.

An 11-hour standoff between a man and Pasadena SWAT ended early this morning when the man, who was injured with two gunshot wounds by police at some point during the situation, surrendered himself. On Sunday evening, LA County SWAT killed a man who shot and injured his wife and was holding his 2-year-old daughter hostage inside his Lynwood home.

Yesterday afternoon, LAPD SWAT stormed a house in Reseda believed to be where a 24-year-old man was being held for ransom. The man was rescued with non life-threatening injuries and seven men and one woman were arrested at the home on 18300 block of Schoolcraft Street near Etiwanda Avenue.

Someone trying to kidnap you is never a fun memory. At least when the alleged kidnapper was nude, it's a good story to tell in years to come.

A man who kidnapped, raped, tortured and stabbed a woman dozens of times with a screwdriver while holding her captive last February was apprehended today in Riverside.
