There's already been a ton of Inglourious Basterds material on LAist this weekend, so I'll only say, "Check it out. It's a helluva ride." My One and Only looks like an intriguing film. Based in part on the life of George Hamilton, it tells the story of a determined woman looking for a wealthy man to provide a nice life for her and her sons. It's been awhile since there's been a film about The Troubles, but Five Minutes of Heaven is a welcome addition to the canon. Liam Neeson stars as a man who, as a child, murdered the brother of another man (a fantastic James Nesbitt). The film tells a story of forgiveness as both try to reconcile the past.

Kevin Bacon the Latest Victim of Madoff Ponzi Scheme

Cue six degrees of Kevin Bacon game now... Three more victims of Bernard L. Madoff's Ponzi scheme were announced, including the Hollywood couple that is Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick. Madoff is accused of running a reportedly $50 billion Ponzi scheme in which investment money from new clients was taken to pay off earlier investors. Hollywood is no stranger to playing victim to Madoff--Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, business manager Gerald Breslauer and Eric Roth (screenwriter of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) are among those swindled.

PROM NIGHT*: The Zero One Gallery hosts “Prom Night 1980” tonight from 8 pm-midnight. This is the first in a series of monthly events where DJ David Daskal spins “records” from a given year. There’s no cover if you come in 80s prom attire, but if you can’t pull out the powder blues, then it’ll cost you $5.

Michel Gondry is one of the few major directors who still relies on almost entirely visual humor in his films. presumably mandated extensive shirtlessness. Kate Hudson's contract, sadly, did not.

written by Bill Krohn for LAist The American Cinematheque honors Dutch-born filmmaker Paul Verhoeven this weekend (Marc 2-4) with a slate of Verhoeven films from the Netherlands and from Hollywood, where he spent the 80s and the 90s making big-budget studio pictures like Total Recall, Robocop and Basic Instinct. Although he's best known for the latter, Verhoeven was a renowned European filmmaker before he joined the Hollywood ranks, and this weekend is a good...

Trailblazers 112, Lakers 108 - When your best player wins the All Star MVP award and a guy from the bench scores 23, things should be clicking. Instead, the Lakers lost their sixth in a row. This is the longest loosing streak in Phil Jackson's career. When he joined the Lakers in 1999 there was a distant memory of a five game loosing streak with the Bulls. The SAG awards start with a bunch of actors telling their stories to the camera.

43-year old Chris Penn was found dead in his Santa Monica apartment today. What killed Nice Guy Eddie Cabot? Nobody's saying. All that's been reported so far is "no signs of foul play." (update: Tuesday night, according to imdb, he was born in 1962. Now it's been changed to say 1965. Maybe he was just 40 after all).

Director Atom Egoyan will have a hard time selling his new film Where The Truth Lies. The MPAA slapped a rare NC-17 rating on the flick for explicit sexual scenes between the three costars: Kevin Bacon, Colin Firth and Rachel Blanchard. The movie also stars Alison Lohman.
