Get Out: Black Clock, Kara Walker & That Hollywood Sound
An Artsy Afternoon @ Hammer Museum
Tired of beach-going so early in the season and looking for a more cerebral way to enjoy the weekend in, say, air-conditioning? You're in luck. The Hammer Museum is the place to be on Sunday afternoon. The much-lauded Kara Walker exhibition, My Complement, My Enemy, My Oppressor, My Love, ends on Sunday and by all accounts, it's a show you don't want to miss. Doors open at 11am giving you plenty of time for a leisurely Sunday morning of coffee and perfectly flaky pastries at Amandine before making your way up Wilshire to the show.
Air Conditioned & Anonymous
The Hammer Museum has free admission all summer. And it's air conditioned. Of course, the galleries are organized around a central courtyard, but last weekend, when the rest of the city was as scorching as it was today, that little courtyard felt like an oasis of shade and calm. Parking in the building costs $3 with the Hammer's validation, or there's a Metro Rapid stop right outside. They've also got some cool nighttime events going this summer, including this indie rock concert series.
