Quick Holds, Vaults Kings to First Place in Pacific Division

Of course it would come down to a battle between the NHL’s top goaltenders. St. Louis Blues’ Brian Elliott and the Kings’ Jonathan Quick did not blink once throughout regulation and overtime. It was two five-hole goals by Mike Richards and Jeff Carter in the shootout that lifted the Kings to first place in the Pacific Division with eight games remaining in the regular season. more ›

Kings Shot Mentality Pays Off Against Sharks

Kings Shot Mentality Pays Off Against Sharks

It’s amazing what a simple concept like shooting the puck towards the net can do for a team. The Kings finally got a victory against one of the upper echelon teams on the Western Conference with a 2-0 shutout win against the San Jose Sharks. more ›

Johnson Dramatics, Quick Records All in a Night for Kings

Johnson Dramatics, Quick Records All in a Night for Kings

Last season in their 12th game of the season, the Kings played perhaps their best-played game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, a 1-0 battle with a Justin Williams goal scored in the sixth minute of the final period. It was a game of hard hits, good puck movement, great goaltending, good defense. That was the point where the Kings potentially doing damage in the playoffs went from rhetoric to an actual probability. more ›

Kings Prolong Clinching Playoff Berth As Long As Possible

Two stinking points - that’s all the Kings have needed since after their Saturday afternoon victory over the Dallas Stars to clinch a playoff berth for the second consecutive season. After they got the snot beat out of them in San Jose on Monday to the tune of a 6-1 loss, the Kings tortured the sold-out STAPLES Center crowd of 18,118 into the shootout. But they prevailed with a 3-2 win to clinch a playoff berth for the second consecutive season. more ›

Can the Kings Cope-itar?

With one twist of an ankle the mood at STAPLES Center went from hopeful to grim. At 15:39 of the second period with Colorado Avalanche defenseman Ryan O’Byrne and Kings’ All-Star center Anze Kopitar fighting for the puck on the boards, Kopitar landed awkwardly on his right leg falling into a heap on the ice. more ›

Kings Ice Flames in Shootout

What’s black and purple and as effective as a wet towel? If you answered the Kings power-play then you deserve a cookie. But for one sweet moment in the 73rd game of the season in their 2-1 shootout victory over the Calgary Flames, they executed it to almost-perfection. more ›

Penner's First Practice with Kings

Penner's First Practice with Kings

“We’re not asking him to be the savior of the franchise,” Kings head coach Terry Murray told reporters today after morning practice at the Kings’ practice facility in El Segundo, Calif. Of course by “him” Murray is referring to the 6-foot-4, 240 pound left winger Dustin Penner whom the Kings acquired on Monday before the trade deadline from the Edmonton Oilers for minor-league defenseman Colton Teubert, a first-round draft pick in 2011 draft and a conditional third-round draft pick in 2012. more ›

Kings Need to Work It

Kings Need to Work It

From the beginning of the season, I have been adamant that the Kings will be in the playoffs. Barring a disaster of 2006 proportions the Kings will be on the road towards a Stanley Cup. However in going 3-3-1 since the Olympic break against mostly playoff contending teams, the Kings are showing that their youth and inexperience will temper expectations come late April. more ›

Kings Beat Flyers 2-1 in Shootout

             + 8 more

The Kings newest goaltender, Jonathan Quick, continued his stingy ways during his fifth NHL start by holding the Atlantic Division leading Philadelphia Flyers to just one goal on Saturday night. Scott Hartnell scored the lone tally for the Flyers three minutes into the middle period, but was matched by rookie Wayne Simmonds during a Kings' power play late in the period. The game stayed tied through overtime and resulted in a shootout. more ›
