Wow! How bad of a release day is it when 12 Rounds and Jonas Brothers: The Concert Experience are the two high-profile releases? Ugh. For the first time in I don't know how long, I couldn't find 20 DVDs worthy of inclusion in this space. Two Lovers is probably the best pick, but it suffers from a surfeit of Gwyneth Paltrow. Maybe the most intriguing DVD out today is Transmorphers: Fall of Man. I'm sure it sucks, but any film that piggy-backs on the marketing largess of the rancid Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is aces in my book!

I'm a big fan of Wayne Kramer (and my childhood devotion to Harrison Ford lingers) so Crossing Over is clearly at the top of my list. Anyone else getting a strong Traffic feel from this picture, though? Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience was the natural follow-up to last year's Miley Cyrus 3D concert film. I'll say now what I said then: Pedophile alert! Pedophile alert! Watch your kids, parents! Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li has only one thing going for it: the almost alien beauty of Kristin Kreuk. Not quite enough to get me into the theater, however. Whither the charming Eddie Burns of the mid-90s? Echelon Conspiracy is the latest in a long line of paycheck films. The best thing about Bob Funk is probably the title.

The spectacle that is the Academy Awards was wonderfully covered by LAist last night but the outcomes of the spectacle were very predictable. LAist was at the SAG awards last month and most of the big winners there, who were also nominated for Oscars, were winners last night.

Controversial contestant Joanna Pacitti has finally been pulled from "American Idol" after it was revealed that she had friendships with multiple executives with "Idol" co-producer 19 Entertainment. For fans of the show who couldn't believe that she had made the cut after performing poorly and fumbling lyrics to several songs during the Hollywood rounds of auditions, it will be assumed that she had moved ahead due to these personal relationships and not merit.

How did this messy mashup happen? Who paired the Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder at tonight's Grammy Awards? We've never seen the Jonas Brothers perform before, but boy did they blow. Nevermind that one of them flubbed his line, but didn't it seem a little smug of them to yell, "C'mon, Stevie!" Like he needs any encouragement to perform? Next time, brothers, it's Mr. Wonder to you.

Tonight Disney's bastard children the Jonas Brothers are performing at the newly renovated Hollywood Palladium. Speaking of the younger demographic, please be good to your children. Take them to experience substantive, thought-provoking music like that of the Parson Red Heads (LAist Review, #2) and the Henry Clay People (LAist Review, #2), who will be performing at the Echo early on for Kidrockers. As always, you must have a child in tow to gain admission. Local singer-songwriter extraordinaire Charlie Wadhams will be concluding a month-long residency at Tangier in Los Feliz. And, lastly, Nebraskan indie pop duo Azure Ray (LAist Interview) will be gracing the Troubadour with Cursive front man Tim Kasher and local folk rockers Whispertown 2000 (LAist Interview, Review, #2). But we strongly suggest you head over to the Echo later on in the night for Portland's own experimental folk maestros Blitzen Trapper (LAist Interview). The busy bees in Parson Red Heads are slated to open, making a grand total of two appearances in one night at one venue.

Is Fox TV above the law? The Washington Post reports that Fox is challenging a $91,000 fine levied against them by the FCC for a broadcast of "Married by America" back in 2003 that featured reality show cast members licking whipped cream off of strippers' "digitally obscured" body parts. Since the FCC is controlled by an administration that is full of Fox fans will the network get away with it? It should be noted that just a few weeks before the naughty "Married by America" episode, the FCC fined ABC $1.2 million for an episode of "NYPD Blue" that featured a shot of a woman's bare bottom. Fox is refusing to pay a fine that's 7.5% of the amount that ABC ended up paying which already raises questions.

This weekend's new movie offererings are so spectacularly awful that I felt compelled to lead with the dreamy 1961 French classic, Last Year At Mariendbad, which opens this weekend at the Nuart. You'll probably walk out of the theater wondering what in the hell you just saw (it's trippy and plotless), but at least you'll be challenged a little bit. That certainly won't be the case with Jessica Alba's latest snoozer, The Eye. This "horror" movie is, of course, a re-make of a better Japanese film. Please Jesus, make this trend and this actress go away.
