Mexico City blogger Alejandro De La Cruz is in town and last night went to see a friend of his play at Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. To his surprise, John Mayer tweeted/announced (twinounced?) that he would be playing later that night. A few hours later, the intimate venue was packed--luckily, De La Cruz already had a front row seat at a table, allowing for some good photos.

There’s a spectrum of the singer songwriter: semi-hotties who produce pure pabulum (John Mayer, Jack Johnson) to artists with great lyrics that we’d much rather listen to than moon over (think Bob Dylan and Van Morrison). And then there’s everyone else.

Tom Reynolds of Groundlings fame is creeped out by the too-tawdry, overly-obsessive, weirdly-whacked love songs of our day and he's written a book to make his case. Oh, to have unlimited resources and $8,000 to blow. My perceptions of rock 'n' roll fantasy camps forever changed this morning when my eyes skimmed an e-mail touting the mother of all rock experiences. My skepticism led me to open the e-mail and I was genuinely shocked by the caliber of the special guests and "camp counselors," which include Brian Wilson, Nick Mason, Cliff Williams and more. The Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp will take place Feb. 15-18 at a recording studio in Los Angeles and will include an on-stage performance with Cliff Williams at the House of Blues.
