DVD Tuesday: Tell Everyone!

If you didn't see Tell No One in the theater last year, go out and immediately buy or rent the best movie released in the U.S. in 2008. Rarely does a film set up such a fantastical premise and deliver on it so perfectly. Slumdog Millionaire never deserved the mini-backlash it received. Based on its kinetic cinematography alone, it was one of the best films of the year. Sure, Dev Patel's performance was a little flat (ok, very flat), but Freida Pinto was absolutely luminous and the child actors were a revelation. As for Marley & Me and Seven Pounds...skip and skip. Spend your money on the great Leonard Cohen or any of these comedy specials.

Not only is TBS' "My Boys" cool because it's got the incomparable Jim Gaffigan in it, but they're handing out poker chips that can be cashed in for drinks at Molly Malone's tonight from 6-7pm.

Great story on NPR this morning about the failure of BET to provide decent programming for the community it originally targeted (and secured funds from, hat in hand).

LAist got to interview bacon-loving funnyman Jim Gaffigan back in November when he orbited close to LA, near Indio or a place of some such ilk.

The Mars Volta, not that I'm some kind of outraged fan, had terrible terrible sound on Letterman last night. I've noticed this over the last few years, yeah I'm slow, that the sound production on the live band performances (not "the CBS Orchestra") is always sub par on Letterman. All the other late night shows have better live sound, Late Night needs to figure this out.

Jim Gaffigan is an actor that does stand-up but his stand-up is what has made him so popular. He's got the Comedy Central Specials, his performance DVD and CD called Beyond the Pale, his regular bits on Conan pushing the hilarious and self-effacing animated series Pale Force, and, of course, there's a soft drink called Sierra Mist. We talked a bit about the creation of Pale Force and the recent contest where 3 lucky viewers...

I never claimed to be mature therefore it's ok for me to be a massive fan of Pale Force, as featured on Late Night With Conan O'Brien. The animated series is voiced and concepted by comedian extraordinaire, Jim Gaffigan, and features both himself and an extremely wussified Conan in all of their sickly pale and semi-nude glory. Other than the TV airings you can watch the series online to be fully up to speed -...

A lotta hungover people in Boston today, no doubt - and with that drama, who the eff was watching the GOP debate? I don't really care about that much this week other than the Damages finale tomorrow night, but first things first. Late night's a bust with almost 100% repeats tonight. Did you catch last night's Curb Your Enthusiasm? Hilarious that Larry David's fictional wife is also leaving him - brilliant too. 8:00pm Chuck NBC...

After a raucous couple of weeks we're settling in now. We know what sucks (Moonlight and about a jillion other programs) and what's pretty good (Chuck and just a handful of others). It's a matter of choosing a couple to follow now as we wait for the delayed series like Nip/Tuck, etc. 7:00pm The Pride of the Yankees TCM - The Gary Cooper classic is followed by Anthony Perkins in Fear Strikes Out, yes, it's...

8-11pm CBS - All new episodes of: How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory (series premiere!), Two and a Half Men, Rules of Engagement, CSI: Miami 8:00pm The War PBS - I think PBS completely effed this up by taking this great series head-to-head against a week of season and series premieres on the networks and cable. They should have shown it last week or the week before where there wasn't jack-shit...

On Thursday night we checked out "True Hollywood Story" night at the Improv, where some great standups told funny, though bitter, stories about their life in this town. The nice thing about places like the Hollywood Improv is that you never know who will show up. Jim Gaffigan was added to the bill at the last second and brought the house down with bits on bacon, laziness, and religion. From time to time he pointed out that he wasn't telling any Hollywood stories, as only Gaffigan can do.

LAist thought it was going to be a cool night just seeing Shiny Toy Guns at Avalon on Thursday, but it turned out to be much more.

Who doesn't love Best Week Ever? Tonight two of our favorite BWE peeps and several other comedians will be doing a new show called "True Hollywood Stories" at the Hollywood Improv. You got Doug Benson and Greg Fitzsimmons from VH-1’s “Best Week Ever”, Andy Kindler from “Everybody Loves Raymond”, Jen Kirkman from “Acceptable TV”, Nate Craig from Blerds.com, and we're being told "possibly" Mary Lynn Rajskub from "24". Only in LA would someone from...

A Word Or 46: The Oscars blew its big TV wad all over the place so let's get on with our lives. The Daily Show and Colbert Report are back from hiatus -- did they think they were doing the Oscars again? What's their excuse? Lots of new TV tonight. Tonight - Monday - February 26th, 2007 Lakers @ Jazz (KCAL, 6:00 p.m.) Bobcats @ Clippers (PRIME, 7:30 p.m.) How I Met Your Mother/The...

A Word Or 71: Hey, thanks for calling me on my BS mistakes yesterday, it pleases me that some people have been reading my little list of shows and snarky comments. Have a great weekend - the only thing that will get me through Oscar night is alcohol, here's a link to an Oscar's Drinking Game but there's got to be better ones, please post your own or links to better ones in the comments....

A Word or 30: Golden Globes redux: was happy that Sacha Baron Cohen won; Forest Whitaker, OK; Alec Baldwin, thank you; but "Cars"? "Grey's Anatomy"? No wonder I hate those award skeet skeet sessions. Tonight - Tuesday - January 16th, 2007 Blues @ Ducks (PRIME, 7:00 p.m.) "American Idol" (Fox, 8:00 p.m.) 2 hour season premiere "America's Funniest Home Videos" (ABC, 8:00 p.m.) A two hour death march of fun "The Unit" (CBS, 9:00...

Tonight - Thursday Kings @ Sharks (Fox Sports, 7:30 p.m.) "Survivor: Cook Islands" (CBS, 8:00 p.m.) The scheming gets more intense, it's all in your head. "The Office" (NBC, 8:00 p.m.) Christmas party double episode! "The OC" (Fox, 9:00 p.m.) For those that can stomach its Chrismukkah episode. "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" (Comedy Central, 11:00 p.m.) Rajiv "Say it 10x Fast" Chandrasekaran of the Washington Post "The Colber(t) Repor(t)" (Comedy Central, 11:30...
