'Artistic Stimulus Package' Tonight at J Lounge

Tonight, downtown's upscale patio bar J Lounge plays host to the "Artistic Stimulus Package," an event that is bringing together music, artists, socially conscience brands and from the looks of the people who have RSVP'd on the event's Facebook page - some really good looking people.

Only when caught first waking up in an airport will you gain a whimsical insight into the vibrant mind of a musician. Aside from the slight grogginess and a hilarious fascination with a deformed Siamese cat with two faces, Jeremy Sole is a really cool person with a great passion for exploring people’s reactions to music. The entire conversation was amusing, but, most importantly, it shined light into the soul of Jeremy’s music. Speaking...

If you're looking for something to do tonight, why not treat yourself to the last night ever of Blue Bongo. The regular club at Little Pedro's has managed to be dance club, blues club, avant-rock club and artist hangout all at once without ever copping attitude. But Little Pedro's, a chronically underappreciated Moroccan-Spanish hybrid bar, restaurant and club on the southeast edge of downtown's art-n-architecture district finally captured the imagination of a new buyer. Who lacks the imagination to keep the Blue Bongo folks around.

TUESDAY

If Res, Garth and Me'shell like them, they must be good, right? Well, tonight you get to decide for yourself as A Race of Angels performs at Little Temple while Jeremy Sole spins the afrobeat, funk and hip hop records. They will also perform with Me'Shell Ndegeocello Monday night at the El Rey. A Race of Angels are an LA based contemporary soul/funk explosion. Think Zero 7 with some kick. They've worked with other local underground soul artists (aka Temple Bar regulars) like GB. We were thinking about staying in tonight and curling up with a good book but the driving force of the drums and strings on our favorite track off of Broadcast Live -- "Michael & The Force" - might just drive us right on over to Little Temple by 10:30 tonight. $10 at the door.

We're not in love with the Curtis Mayfield Remixed album. Outside of an excellent reinterpretation of Superfly as a latin dance joint by Little Louis Vega and our love of Freddie's Dead in any form, it's simply OK. Tonight's birthday tribute to Mayfield at Little Temple, though, should be anything but just OK. DJ Jeremy Sole and KCRW's Tom Golubic (who is also the music supervisor for Six Feet Under *ahem* Contest!) should be funking you up in the main area and Rhino records is giving away a bunch of stuff (including full albums and samples of Remixed) so you can decide about this stuff for yourself. $10 at the door or email here to get up on that Dervish friends list for a discount.
