I've always been intrigued by other "best of" lists, but this year I decided to take it to a whole new level. I e-mailed a handful of bands that I've seen this past year in order to unearth what exactly captivated them in '07. As music listeners, it is our duty to take a keen interest in our favorite musician's influences. After all, they rocked our little world, might as well see what rocked their......

Last night Jeff Tweedy and the boys of Wilco performed a stellar two hour long set at the Greek. Since I had a wall pass, I had the pleasure of people watching and I must say that Wilco fans are happy folk. Singing along and even dancing at times, the fans were enraptured by the incredible musicianship. The bashful yet charismastic Jeff Tweedy led the crowd through a set comprised of half Sky Blue......

Let me preface the following review with: I've never seen Grand Ole Party, Everest, or Sea Wolf perform live before. Last night's show at The Echo was exceptional. However, I noticed a palpable disparity between Sea Wolf fans as I traveled from the back to the front of the brimming room. In the back, I experienced insouciant veterans, who felt as though the set list dragged a bit, but ended with a bang. In......

Sea Wolf opened for Sloan last night at the Troubadour. The band featured music soon-to-be released EP, Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low. Lead singer Alex Brown Church, the bands only invariable member and also current member of the band Irving, felt like a young Jeff Tweedy. The kind of guy who can’t help but seem genuine in everything he does. Melodically lilting and filled with hopefully melancholy, the songs fit the......

Life on the Edge doesn't mind that the LA Harbor has stopped exploring the use of low-profile cranes. The high cranes, they say, are an essential part of the San Pedro landscape. The picture proves their point. Newcomer Los Angeles City Nerd is worried about the Valley's Woodbridge Park, which might be taken over by the city for a sewer project. There will be a rally (pro-park, anti-sewage) on Saturday. Franklin Avenue has news......

Though dour and somber, Jeff Tweedy is still making music. You can see Wilco tonight when KCRW presents their live show at the Wiltern. The show starts at 8:00 PM. At Spaceland, see Mofro, The Black John Blues (featuring John Bigham of The Soul of John Black) and Augie March. Doors open at 9:00 PM.
