Tonight Rhode Island-bred bluegrass singer-songwriter/guitarist Dave Rawlings, who is best known as bluegrass troubadour Gillian Welch's longtime musical partner, will not only be performing at Amoeba Music, but at the Troubadour as well. LA-based folk rock singer-songwriter Imaad Wasif is poised to grace Spaceland with none other than Dead Meadow front man Jason Simon and Mockingbirds, which contains members of local post-rock act Red Sparowes. And, lastly, LA-based alt-country outfit Horse Thieves will be taking on the Echo. But we strongly suggest heading over to Largo at the Coronet to catch LAist favorite, English folk singer-songwriter Laura Marling.

Buddyhead Christmas Party @ Hotel Cafe, 12/21/08
Earlier this month, Buddyhead held its Christmas Party at the Hotel Cafe (MySpace) in Hollywood, with a lineup that included poet Ryan Ritchie, Brandon Intelligator and The Sheriffs (MySpace), Tsk Tsk (MySpace), Sid Brown (MySpace), Todd Congelliere ("MySpace), Dios Malos (MySpace), Claire Cronin (MySpace), Zander Schloss (MySpace), Nick Jago, Alain Johannes, Jason Simon, Sweethead (MySpace), and Aaron North.
Tonight In Rock: Lil' Wayne, The Mae Shi, Dead Meadow, Dios (Malos)
Tonight New Orleans-based rapper Lil' Wayne is slated to headline the Gibson Amphitheatre. LA's own electronic genius Daedelus will be headlining the Echoplex and will be accompanied by Busdriver, the Mae Shi, Rumspringa and the Entrance Band. And although that stellar bill is all too enticing, we strongly recommend stopping by the Hotel Café for Buddyhead's Christmas Party. A trough full of celebrated local musicians, like QOTSA front man Josh Homme, Dead Meadow front man Jason Simon, Xu Xu Fang (LAist Review, #2, #3) and LAist favorites Dios (Malos) (LAist Interview), will preside over the unruly procession.
