Last night’s 9-5 loss in 12 innings against the Atlanta Braves has thrown a monkey wrench in the Dodgers pitching rotation. After Jason Schmidt was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder injury, Scott Elbert was supposed to take his spot to start in Sunday’s game. However Elbert was sent to pitch in the 12th inning after Ramon Troncoso allowed runners to get on first and second and gave up the winning RBI single and three-run homer by Ryan Church. more ›

Down 8-0 to the Florida Marlins after five innings, the Dodgers rallied to keep fans on the edge of their seat but ultimately fell short losing 8-6. "These guys play hard," Torre said. I sat at the Dodgers home opener on April 9, 2007 and watched Jason Schmidt pitch a horrible game. Just looking at the scoreboard after each pitch he made it was evident something was wrong. Portland Trail Blazers defeat LA Lakers 111-94. Absolutely nothing in this game was pretty. The Lakers offense was MIA scoring only 56 points through three quarters. A scary moment at the end of the third quarter happened when Trevor Ariza made a hard foul against Rudy Fernandez during a fast break opportunity. Fernandez landed hard on his ribs when he couldn't get his feet under him. Ariza was charged with a flagrant two foul and ejected from the game while Josh Powell and Portland's Travis Outlaw and LaMarcus Aldridge were given technical fouls for the scuffle afterwards. While the Lakers made a valiant attempt in the fourth quarter, a 28 point deficit at the start of the quarter was just too much to overcome. LA Clippers defeat Golden State Warriors 118-105. With Zach Randolph and Marcus Camby back in the line up, the Clippers finally got some size back into their team. And the size did help them win against the fast paced Warriors. There was also a Baron Davis sighting who nearly had a triple-double with 25 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds. Zach Randolph and Eric Gordon each scored 27 points for the Clips. more ›

Blazers 82, Clippers 80 - Portland blew a 14 point lead in Staples Center one night after blowing a 15 point lead on the very same court. This time they were playing the Clippers, so things worked out OK. Los Angeles managed a pathetic 29 points in the first half, but did make a noble effort in the second. Well at least the weather was good. The Dodgers, as well as Major League Baseball celebrated Jackie Robinson Day Saturday April 15th. The Blue Crew looked to improve their record against arch rival San Francisco Giants but found themselves falling short and wondering what happened. It was an eventful and dare we say, entertaining series if not a successful one. The Dodgers dropped 2 of 3 to the Giants and fell below .500 (6-7) with a sad 2-4 record at home. Jackie Robinson Day itself was a success as the Odalis Perez pitched seven strong innings to get a 3-1 victory over Giants ace Jason Schmidt in front of over 53,000 in attendance. The other two games however found the Dodgers searching for their hitting stroke as well as for answers. They managed only 4 runs in 3 games as opposed to the offensive explosion against the Pirates in their previous series which featured a 13 run game on Thursday. Also noted in the games was the absent bat of one Barry Bonds. The San Francisco slugger failed to hit his first homerun of the season against LA and that is something that LAist can take solace in. more ›

Weaver has been one of the most reliable starters for the Dodgers, and Yhencey Brazoban (also aquired in the Yankees trade) has become a top reliever. While LAist doesn't doubt the Angels are a great team, we'd like people to evaluate the Dodgers on more than one game against Jason Schmidt. Perhaps halo fans should be concerned that only Vlad Guerrero could muster any damage off of Texas' Ryan Drese.
