Is Jamie Oliver Opening a Restaurant in Los Angeles?

Beefing Up the Veggies, Banning the Candy Milk: Is the LAUSD Actually Saving School Food Today?

Beefing Up the Veggies, Banning the Candy Milk: Is the LAUSD Actually Saving School Food Today?

After months of kerfuffle with Jamie Oliver and local, community food and environmental activists, today the LAUSD board takes action on the dreaded pink milk. While pink milk is an atrocity (it has more sugar than Coca-Cola) in a school district with a childhood obesity epidemic, it calls into question the rest of the USDA mandatory 5 items on a lunch tray. The Oliver camp is calling this a win, and in the light of ABC re-scheduling and lower-than-hoped-for ratings, perhaps it is. But milk is just one part of the equation. more ›

Jamie Oliver Revolutionizing LAUSD Food: Less Enticing for Viewers than Reruns of Dancing B-List Celebs

Jamie Oliver Revolutionizing LAUSD Food: Less Enticing for Viewers than Reruns of Dancing B-List Celebs

The "Revolution" will not be televised, it seems. Well, at least not in May. ABC has decided that viewers are far more likely to tune in to see a repeat of celebri-dancers hoofing it on "Dancing With the Stars" than fresh episodes of Jamie Oliver's "Food Revolution" series for the next few weeks. The network has pulled the show for the duration of May Sweeps, and will resume airing the remaining eps in June. more ›

What the Spork? Jamie Oliver & the LAUSD Make Nice on Late Night TV

In a low-profile attempt at armistice, newly appointed Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent John Deasy joined food revolutionary Jamie Oliver on Jimmy Kimmel's show last night. Before the show even aired, the local "Revolution"-aries were cheering the end of flavored milk in L.A.'s public schools. However, that's not a done deal, and we're still wondering what's up with this sudden change of heart from the new head of the nation's second largest school district. more ›

When British Chef and TV personality Jamie Oliver set up his "Food Revolution" studios in Westwood, a lot of folks went "Huuuuhhhh?" considering the neighborhood is largely a blend of high-end living and the UCLA college town. What's for Lunch at the LAUSD? Certainly Not Oliver's 'Food Revolution.'

What's for Lunch at the LAUSD? Certainly Not Oliver's 'Food Revolution.'

The Los Angeles Unified School District has flat out rejected the offer of Chef Jamie Oliver's reality television school nutrition makeover show Food Revolution to help them transform their lunches into good food that is good for the students, according to the LA Times. "Our feeling was that his time would be better spent or invested in other communities," said a representative from the Superintendent's office yesterday. more ›

Curry Night at Home

Curry Night at Home

I'm a total cooking-show whore, I'll admit it right up front (although Sandra Lee's "open a can of crap and put a marshmallow on it!" school of cooking has never sat right with me). I have a long long queue of Jamie Oliver and Mario Batali cooking shows on my DVR, since they play them at odd hours, either when I'm asleep or at work. I know that Anthony Bourdain would gladly put a cigarette out on my arm for saying this, but I kinda love Jamie Oliver, with his cute little lisp and cute little motorbike and cute little wife and kid. I know his dishes aren't what you would call authentic, but I like his style and his ingredients and his cute little lisp. Did I mention that already? more ›
