An apparent loud family birthday party in Pacoima drew a large police response in the early hours of Sunday morning, which was partially caught on video. The video depicts an officer telling local photographer Shawn Nee he can't take a photo of him from the sidewalk without his permission. Nee rejects the notion, citing the law, but the officer said he didn't care what the law was.
LAPD Launches Investigation of Use of Force Against Cyclists Captured on Video
Thanks to video captured Friday night, some of LAPD's Hollywood Area bike unit officers are under scrutiny by LAPD internal affairs following complaints raised by bicyclists participating in a group ride organized in protest of the BP oil spill. The bicyclists are questioning the officers' use of excessive force during the ride, and the LAPD has announced via a statement that they are pursuing the matter internally.
LAPD Officers Arrested in Whittier in Pistol-Whipping Case
Last night two off-duty LAPD officers were arrested in Whittier and booked "on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon," according to KFWB. The officers, whose names cannot by law be released, were allegedly drinking when they became engaged in a fight outside the Panera Bread Bakery Cafe at the Whittwood Town Center.
320 Racial Complaints to LAPD; 100% are Cleared
For the sixth year in a row, complaints of racial profiling towards LAPD officers have all been dismissed, according to the LA Times who reviewed documents from the police department's Internal Affairs Group. In 2007, all 320 cases that allege that officers stopped, questioned or confronted someone because of race, were closed, 80% of them as "unfounded."
