Los Angeles is working on being the second city in the state to successfully reduce pigeon and squirrel populations by using birth control rather than killing the animals. The LA Times reports that squirrel birth control known as GonaCon, which succeeded in cutting squirrel's birth rate by 66% in 2004 in Berkeley, was piloted in Palisades Park but then thwarted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture which deemed the park too small to continue......

We -ists are an eclectic bunch, but there's a couple of things we all love: famous people, social causes, and wacky local facts. LAist just returned from that dreaded, onerous chore -- a weekday lunchtime run to the post office. In Hollywood, we’ve got the choice between long lines and grand architecture at Hollywood Station on Wilcox, or efficiency wrapped in corporate design drek at “cheap and tawdry” (in the authoritative words of the most recently updated Gebhard and Winter architectural guide) Hollywood + Highland. The latter’s near secret status helps ensure (for now) super speedy service;......

During the months since Defamer launched in May last year, the Hollywood outpost of the Gawker blog dominion got under the collective skin of Hollywood faster than the hands of an agent under a willing starlet’s skirt. This formerly anonymous, always smooth operator has proven that equal opportunity offending makes openly credited blogging a safe enterprise. While the media spinners of the world try to protect us, the delicate and impressionable public, from the......

Though it is a slow night for events, the city isn't being denied quality. Tonight is your chance to see two legendary musicians at work and LAist recommends that you see them if you can. Tonight at Spaceland is the second and final performance by Love with Arthur Lee, performing Da Capo in its entirety. To add even more allure to the evening, Imaad Wasif of Alaska! will be opening. Doors are at 9:00......
