It seemed the writing was on the wall for Indie 103.1 FM when the plug was pulled on Joe Escalante’s “Last Of The Famous International Morning Shows.” Two months later Indie 103.1's plug was pulled.

The latest iteration of Modest Mouse rocked the mid-sized (4,000 capacity) Hollywood Palladium last week leaving most fans -- young, old, industry, walk-ins -- satisfied. But for those waiting to hear the opening notes of the band's radio (and video game) hits "Float On," "Ocean Breathes Salty," and "Dashboard," it was an incomplete night.
Today Santa Monica-based public radio station KCRW divulged the details of the latest addition to their DJ roster. Black Flag front man Henry Rollins, who completed his first radio work nearly twenty years ago at the aforementioned station, will commandeer local airwaves every Saturday from 6 to 8 PM. The big move, of course, comes on the heels of Indie 103's untimely demise in mid-January. It is uncertain what the exact driving force of the decision to sign on with KCRW was. However, it can be surmised that since Indie shuttered—subsequently regressing to an online-only broadcast—its demographic has been severely constrained. KCRW is poised to anoint Rollins during tomorrow's edition of Morning Becomes Eclectic with Jason Bentley.
LetIndieLive.com, an unadorned and particularly self-aware website, acts as the conduit for transmitting the input of the public. The slate gray site, emblazoned with the Tennysonian maxim "It is better to do something, rather than nothing," is an extraordinary mixture of harsh reality and lofty ideals.
If you turned your radio dials to Indie 103 this morning and overheard a stern, visceral message of immediate termination between each song, then you’re already aware of the fate of one of LA’s most popular alternative stations.
Chrissie Hynde is so cool, she can get away with talking to her audience like a cranky old man without losing their affection.
Two weeks ago, local Kárin Tatoyan (MySpace) performed at The Echoplex (MySpace) as part of Indie 103.1's recently-relaunched weekly Check One Tuesday series.

Last night, Indie 103.1's "Also I Like To Rock" series continued, at the Hammer Museum in Westwood, with performances from local bands Miss Derringer (MySpace) and The Deadly Syndrome (MySpace).
Last month, local band The Airborne Toxic Event (MySpace) returned to Spaceland (MySpace) in Silver Lake to headline a show that included The Deadly Syndrome (MySpace), and The Henry Clay People (MySpace) with support from I Make This Sound (MySpace) and Le Switch (MySpace). As aptly described by Mouse from Classical Geek Theatre, "Before a mixed-crowd of longtime fans and recent, true-believing converts, The Airborne Toxic Event rewarded ticket holders with a near flawless-set that could have just as easily been played at The Hollywood Bowl, The Kodak Theatre, or Coachella. There was no melodrama, very little hype, and nobody on stage had to prove anything. It was just the band and their songs; naked, raw, hard-boiled."
On Saturday night, local bands Xu Xu Fang (MySpace) and Film School (MySpace) performed at the Henry Fonda Theater, opening for the reunited Swervedriver (MySpace).
Last Sunday, local electronic pop duo Electrocute (MySpace), perhaps best known for their song "Bikini Bottom" on the soundtrack, concluded their February residency at Spaceland (MySpace) in Silver Lake. The lineup included Totally Radd!! (MySpace) and Har Mar Superstar (MySpace).
On Monday night, local artist and Downtown resident Elizabeth McGrath (formerly of Tongue) and her gothic country band Miss Derringer (MySpace) performed as the headliners of Indie 103.1 (MySpace)'s Check One Two Mondays at The Viper Room in West Hollywood.
Destiny's Child vs The Cardigans - "My Favorite Name" About a year and a half ago we introduced you to Indie's mashup DJ Paul V. as he was celebrating the one-year anniversary of Bootie LA, the monthly dance party fueled by the current day's mashups. Since then Bootie LA has moved from the Echo to Safari Sam's but the party hasn't missed a step. Matter of fact, tonight Bootie LA is welcoming French mashup...
Photo via Midnight Movies' website I managed to make it to the very last Also I Like To Rock event at the Hammer Museum last night in Westwood. But my camera died when we got there. Despite rumors that there would be a massive line to get in and no parking, showing up at 7:30 yielded a nice un-metered spot on Wilshire about a block away, and plenty of time to go to an...
Any struggling A&R rep ought to take advantage of this holiday season and jump on the Mere Mortals while Hollywood naps. Their self-made "Rebel Radio" EP is climbing the FMQB charts that track national airplay on new music radio shows. Not only are the Mere Mortals the only unsigned band on the Single chart where they're #15, but they're #10 on the Album chart. Last year Napoleon Dynamite's Jon Gries (Uncle Rico) checked out...
