Bicycle Coalition Looking into a Vulnerable User Law for CA

This year, it seems like there has been more reported pedestrian and bicycle incident than usual. Back in the Spring, three pedestrians were killed in incidents involving a Metro bus or train. Two bicyclists were shot this past weekend and one was killed by a drunk driver. The list could go on. In today's LA County Bicycle Coalition e-mail blast, it announced the beginnings of a campaign to bring California a law to help protect the people who use the modes of transportation:

A 39-year-old woman was struck and killed by a Metrolink train moving through Burbank last night. According the Daily News, the Burbank police say she "was struck about 6:25 p.m. at San Fernando Boulevard and Buena Vista Street." No further information has been made available. The Burbank police are investigating the incident, and they are asking that anyone with information call them at (818) 238-3000.

Late Monday night at LAX, an Australian-bound Qantas Boeing 747 blew four tires while attempting to take off. The pilot aborted the takeoff after a warning light went on, braking suddenly, damaging the tires as the plane came to a rest to the side of a taxiway. It is unknown what caused the light
