Last Sunday, local Alex Lilly's solo project Obi Best (MySpace), formerly known as Colorforms (MySpace), performed the first show of her month-long residency, celebrating the release of her debut album Capcades, at Tangier in Los Feliz. As described by Spin Magazine, "Under a sprightly, whimsical layer-cake of pianos, synths, and budget drum-machine skitters (provided by a slew of like-minded pals), Lilly's work takes on a circus-esque, twirling quality with its animated, bubbly instrumentation and......

Yesterday, Little Radio's Summer Camp series Downtown continued with performances from local bands The Parson Redheads (MySpace), The Henry Clay People (MySpace), and Film School (MySpace). This was a rather memorable appearance for The Henry Clay People for several reasons: It was their first show at Little Radio. It was guitarist Andy Ciara's birthday. Frontman Joey Ciara vowed to put more people onstage than The Parson Redheads -- whose bandmember count can approach The......

Jordan McConnell of The Duhks | Photo via thir Myspace page Willie Nelson may be playing downtown tonight, but if you want some folk rock that's local and amazingly fresh, go hear Brian Wright and the Waco Tragedies. We heard them last week at their first show of their Hotel Cafe February residency and it was in-your-face and beautiful. But you've got a tough choice if you like this kind of music because when......

They're probably the best band in the world right now. And they're playing at the world famous Hollywood Bowl. If you don't have tickets, break your piggy banks, go to the show and overpay for the Arcade Fire. Think of how much you hand over to cable each month or your cell phone carrier. These Canadians with their punk sensibilities and violins and megaphones deserve your attention. If not, there are some mighty fine......

About ten days ago at Spaceland Shapes of Race Cars (not Races Cars, LA Weekly), played with the Binges in a show that even Mummy from The Monster Squad attended and rocked out to. Tonight you'll have to choose which one you want to see, unless of course you're interested in laughing, in which case you might consider Patton Oswalt... or Metal Skool who are known to attract celebs to their shows. After the......
