Last night Madonna was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by none other than Justin Timberlake. In another unusual spin, she chose The Stooges, fronted by Iggy Pop to perform two of her hits, "Burning Up" and "Ray of Light.". Stooges bass player and occasional LAist contributor Mike Watt rocks out in the above clip. Stay tuned at the end of the video for some backstage scenes from last night's induction, which was televised live on VH1 Classics.

I almost didn’t go to see Ann Summa’s Los Angeles punk photo exhibition at Track 16 Gallery in Santa Monica. No offense to the once, raw obscure photographers who happened to be at the right place at the right time 30 years ago, snapping amazing images of once, raw obscure bands. Your recognition is well past due. It’s just that there’s been a plethora of punk picture/art/flyer/book exhibitions in the past few years and I’ve seen most of them and on the night in question, I was running late from an earlier art opening and thought, “maybe I’ll just skip this one.” Thankfully, I came to my senses and hauled my lazy ass over to Bergamot Station. On the way in, I was greeted by the nostalgic sight of a drunk-off-her-butt teenager being half carried through the parking lot by friends. I took it as a sign from the gods of punk rock.

It's black on the outside and as colorful as hell on the inside. It's sound system is perfect, it's Basement Bar is cozy, and the room always seems smaller than it should. A good thing. Notorious for a celebrity death and a famous former owner, the Viper Room is a jewel on the Sunset strip.

Wendy’s – home of square hamburger patties, decent fast-food chili and the Frosty – is giving aspiring musicians and producers a chance to show off their stuff by promoting their new “Baconator” burger. (That includes six strips of bacon! At 830 calories and 51 grams of fat for the Baconator, LAist asks only one thing: What obesity epidemic??) But we digress: By submitting an original song, contestants will get a chance to win “a...

I decided this video couldn't wait, so today 9:20 A.M. is the new 4:20 P.M. A tip of the hat to The Documentary Blog for alerting us to the fact that filmmaker A.J. Schnack just posted clips from About A Son, his upcoming documentary about Kurt Cobain. The film features loads of audio clips from interviews with the Nirvana singer conducted by music writer Michael Azerrad, who was Cobain's "authorized biographer." About A Son is...

A Word or 49: Iggy Pop redeems Jimmy Kimmel tonight. For petessake when is the stupid 'house' gimmick ever gonna end on House? Iggy & The Stooges The Wiltern April 23, 2007 Last night we managed to get in to see Iggy and the Stooges rock the Wiltern. We are very grateful to a certain bass player for this, because the tickets sold out in like a minute. The Wiltern is still gorgeous, but it is really weird the way they took out all of the seats downstairs. They have plenty of bars and bartenders, clean bathrooms,...

I still want a hula hoop. But I'll settle for a sweet stash of new music and reissues. Here are the newbies for this festive holiday week. [via All Music]

This was not a very happy week for the -ist network as one of our own, Phillyist co-editor Star C. Foster, passed away early in the week. Her wit, intelligence, and good nature shone through the site, making Phillyist an immensely fun read. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Those beautiful geniuses at The Smoking Gun have done it again. This time they've obtained a copy of Iggy Pop's concert rider, which true to their claims, is probably the funniest rider in the history of rock and/or roll. Seriously. The document, which runs to 18 pages, was apparently written by roadie Jos Grain and among other hilarities includes this addendum (whatever that means):

By the way, if there are any Reality TV executive reading this - hardly likely, I know, but - here is my idea for a reality TV show.

Born in LA 33 years-and-a-day ago, June 21, 1973, it seems like Juliette has done it all.

TUESDAY

We've been trying to write an appropriate obit for Danny Sugarman, longtime aficinado, and eventual manager, of the Los Angeles rock band the "Doors" but we're not in the mood. Perhaps it's the rain, perhaps it's bitterness over what little he did with managing Iggy Pop's career, but we just can't work up any passion for the man who parlayed a gig as a male groupie into a career. He was such a starf*cker that he even married Fawn Hall, who was Oliver North's secretary during the Iran-Contra scandal.
