Got any eggs handy? You might want to experiment with sidewalk frying today, because we're due to "bake under sizzling temperatures today," according to the Daily News. The heat wave is not releasing its grip on us just yet, and the humidity is clinging too, and we're going to see "highs today in the low 100s in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita, San Gabriel and Pomona valleys and the mountains of Los Angeles County, other than the Santa Monica range." They might even set a new record out in Lancaster--beating the one they set yesterday (at a balmy 107 degrees). And it's not going to cool down anytime soon, so hang on, hot stuffs, it's going to be another few days of hot hot heat. The National Weather Service forecasts mid to upper 90s in Pasadena and Burbank, low 100s in the Valley, mid to upper 70s at the beaches, and DTLA will hit 89. more ›

Winds are expected to gust up to 70 mph or more through out the Los Angeles and Ventura County region. “Anytime we have gusts over 60 mph, very significant trees can get blown over, power lines can get blown over and we could see some structure damages as well,” the NWS told the LA Times. “It will be very dry and very windy, and we’ve already put the fire authorities on high alert.” As of 4 p.m., the LA Fire Department had not called for any Red Flag Parking restrictions. more ›

This is Wildfire Weather

This is Wildfire Weather

The heavy wind in the Valley from last night has spread a bit more throughout the city causing more concern from the National Weather Service that today's mix of winds, humidity and heat are conducive to wildfires. A red flag warning for the area has been called, but Los Angeles officials have not called a local redflag that affects parking in hillside communities. ALSO: A new study finds that wildfires have another negative effect: they cause "spikes in ground-level ozone, a lung irritant, that can occur far from the fire itself... In the upper atmosphere [the ozone] protects against harmful ultraviolet rays, but near the surface it can aggravate athsma and other lung conditions." more ›

What does a wind speed of 25 mph or more plus a humidity of 15% or less equal? It equals a Red Flag day where those two ingredients can easily bring out a fast moving brush fire in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, which happens to be in those lovely hills many call home. Whether it's the Hollywood Hills or Sherman Oaks, people who live on old and skinny streets that would... more ›
