TV Junkie: Thursday

The New York Times says that the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and the Screen Actors Guild will not be reaching an agreement anytime soon. In less than 60 days the SAG contract is up and all motion picture and TV production will stop on a dime with the exception of game shows, reality TV, and the news. I might actually get outside this summer! more ›

LAist Interview: Jacob Soboroff of Why Tuesday

LAist had the opportunity to catch up with Jacob Soboroff, Executive Director of Why Tuesday to talk about WT, their upcoming projects and politics. Jacob has worked as a part time advance man for NYC Michael Bloomberg and briefly played the same role for presidential candidate Howard Dean. He moved back from NYC to his hometown of Los Angeles last year, when I first met him, and since returning has video blogged for LA... more ›

TV Junkie: The Retiring Bob Barker Is All Over CBS Tonight; Comedy Hottie Sarah Silverman on Kimmel (literally too, unfortunately)

A Word or 52: TV icon Bob Barker is retiring and is getting a big sendoff from CBS. Lost will be killing us by not giving us any additional info about Locke. Idol will knock another one off. There are no decent movies on TCM or IFC to go take refuge from regular broadcast TV tonight. Tonight - Wednesday - May 9, 2007 Angels @ Mariners (Fox Sports, 7:00 p.m.) Cardinals @ Dodgers (PRIME,... more ›

"The Biggest Loser" (NBC, 8:00 p.m.) "They're Back" - nuff said "America's Next... more ›

Around the Globe with the Ists

Around the Globe with the Ists

As fall settles in and another calendar page gets turned, thoughts turn from bbq's and vacations to holidays and the realization that '06 is coming to an end. With all that going on, with change in the air, we wonder what is it that made that makes the -ists ponder? Phillyist is concerned that the war on Trans fats could affect it's beloved cheese steak sandwiches, something for which we should all be concerned.... more ›

The Party Don't Stop?

The Party Don't Stop?

With general consensus being that our own little local election is essentially over, LA went national this weekend with the California Democratic Party Convention. The biggest democratic star not named Clinton -- Party Chair Howard Dean -- was everywhere to mixed reviews. The Angelino tells us very little about what Arianna Huffington said but we do know this: democratic faithful find the left-leaning independent sexy. more ›

A Bob And His Blog

One of the problems with Howard Dean's campaign (disclosure time! I worked for Dean in New York when I was in college) was that the majority of its supporters came from traditionally liberal constituencies, making a lot of its grassroots efforts moot. But L.A. is a democratic stronghold, and it's reasonable to speculate that a Dean-esque effort could catch fire among young citizens who are hungry for a significant chance to make a difference. more ›

Hertzberg for Los Angeles?

Hertzberg for Los Angeles?

LAist is taking Hertzberg's candidacy seriously - he's raised more money than the rest of Hahn's potential opponents, and that counts for a lot. And his desire to beat the mayor on a campaign theme of "change" and "new ideas" shows that he's ambitious. But it takes actual, genuine new ideas to make that kind of case compelling (not to mention a healthy dose of charisma). Does Bob have either? Will his friendship with Governor Schwarzenegger prove decisive? And, for that matter, does the word of non-bodybuilders count for anything in this town anymore? more ›
