In the last year, HBO has lost four of my favorite shows for various reasons--The Sopranos, Extras, Deadwood and Rome. Do you hear that sound, HBO? That sound is Showtime creeping up on you. At least the second season of Rome is now available on DVD. If you like gratuitous sex mixed with your gratuitious violence (and who doesn't?), then Rome is the show for you. One of the last great seasons of The......

For what seems like the first time in years, The Simpsons actually exceeded expectations. The first movie of America's first animated family took in a whopp(er)ing 71.8 million dollars at the box office this weekend, demolishing even the most optimistic of estimates. Credit Fox's clever marketing campaign and the opportunity to finally see Bart's shrimpy doodle. I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry finished a distant second, making 19 million bucks to raise its......

I don’t believe in spoilers, I just believe in me. And Homer. While The Simpsons have never faded from public view, the last few years have seen their franchise popularity wane ever so slightly; their eighteen year marathon hitting something of a plateau. So when I first heard murmurs of a feature film, my worst fears surfaced -- What if no one cares about The Simpsons anymore? What if the entire campaign gets ignored......

The 7-11 at the intersection of Olive and Verdugo in Burbank has temporarily been converted into a Kwik-E-Mart. It was re-done late Saturday night and will remain a Kwik-E-Mart for the next month to promote the upcoming Simpsons movie. Eleven 7-11s in the United States and two in Canada have been converted into Kwik-E-Marts as part of the promotion. DCist has their very own Kwik-E-Mart in Bladensburg, MD. Golam, Burbank's friendly counterman, was having a......

A Word or, I dunno, like 80: It seems to be coming together a bit on Lost - another good episode last night. If you want the producers' perspective, they're on tonight after Grey's. Delay goes to his base tonight on Colbert. Tonight the networks will have the typical struggle between comedy and young-doctors-in-love, what will you succumb to? Tonight - Thursday - May 17, 2007 Angels @ Mariners (Fox Sports, 7:00 p.m.) Bob......

Many things make it into the LAist email box. But when anything is sent from Springfield we mark it Spam immediately. Somehow this slipped through the filter. We keeeed. The Simpsons have been on the air longer than most of you could pee straight and apparently this year they have decided to agree on some resolutions. Here they be... In preparation for the New Year, Homer, Marge and many of their fellow Springfieldians vow to......

We hate to do this, we really do, because it is letting el gato right out of the bag. Curbed LA has the skinny on lofts in development that may be the coolest in the city, in the East LA community of Boyle Heights. The Buena Vista Lofts will have views of Hollenbeck Park and downtown LA. The building, a former hospital, is a recently-designated historic landmark. There will be actual greenspace. Sigh. We're......

LAist's latest contributor, Kevin Kelly, caught a performance of MacHomer on 1/29/2005 at Pepperdine University. Ladies and Gentlemen, Rich Little and Frank Gorshin have apparently channeled (or sold) their mimicry talents to Montreal-born Rick Miller, impressionist and genius behind the wonder that is "MacHomer." Rick has taken Shakespeare's Macbeth and worked it into a contemporary take on the tale using almost every Simpson's character in the process. He impersonates everyone from Apu Nahasapeemapetilon (in......

Knowing that the plays of Shakespeare and the hit television show "The Simpsons" are two pieces of superior entertainment that have been running longer than their counterparts, LAist couldn't help but get excited when we heard about the unique entertainment experience called "MacHomer." Performed by Rick Miller (the reincarnation of Rich Little even though he's not technically dead yet), "MacHomer" is Miller's "one man vocal spectacular that features over 50 voices from TV's "The......
