Los Angeles' most famous equine resident, Zenyatta, is moving to Kentucky but not before a grand send-off on Sunday at Hollywood Park in Inglewood. Come Monday, the six year-old many know as "The Queen" will call Lane's End Farm home where she'll focus on popping out some very sought after babies. Having called Hollywood Park home for thee years, the famous filly is retiring with nineteen wins in twenty tries and more than seven million dollars in earnings. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers, Angels Sweep Towards .500

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers, Angels Sweep Towards .500

LA Dodgers defeat Colorado Rockies 7-6. Matt Kemp hit a homer in consecutive games for the first time since August 21 and 22. Fortunately for the Dodgers it was his fifth career grand slam that gave the Dodgers the 5-1 lead in the third inning. The Rockies being resilient, they had the bases loaded and one out in the ninth inning down 7-5 with Ronald Belisario on the mound. But Belisario got out of the jam allowing only one run to score. The Dodgers sweep the series begging the question where this performance was when they were still in the wild card hunt back in the last weekend of August. more ›

History Vs. Money: The Last Days of Hollywood Park?

History Vs. Money: The Last Days of Hollywood Park?

2008 is the 70th anniversary of Hollywood Park, a once grand-dame in the world of horse racing that may meet the fate of the bulldozer come next year. With racing not the draw it once was, the stands are often sparsely populated, and its home city of Inglewood has their eye on a more lucrative prize. more ›

On This Day...

On This Day...

I am thankful for… Thanksgiving - even though I think it’s a stupid holiday, and I pretty much hate all the food associated with it - for giving me the opportunity to spend the day with family that I love and actually enjoy being around. I am thankful every day that I am able to make a living being creative and doing something I love. (Except for when I’m on strike) I am thankful... more ›

Midnight Ridazz to do the Haunted Ride tonight

Midnight Ridazz to do the Haunted Ride tonight

We listed tomorrow's Choppercabra costumed Halloween ride in our Weekend Halloween Guide, but this one takes some courage to post about because of where it's located. We'll let Midnight Ridazz explain: This ride will take you to two haunted houses. Don’t worry about the haunted houses, worry about where the haunted houses are located. Yes your worse nightmares are about to come true. Oh it looks all pristine, with nice houses and manicured lawns,... more ›

WeHo Book Fair Part I: The Robertson Salon, Sponsors, and Queer Renegades

WeHo Book Fair Part I: The Robertson Salon, Sponsors, and Queer Renegades

It was scorching hot in West Hollywood on Sunday for the West Hollywood Book Fair, much too hot for the heavy, dirty jeans and tight, thick t-shirt I was wearing. I don’t know if it was because of the hangover I was nursing, the fact that I arrived a little late, or just the heat, but at 12pm when I arrived at West Hollywood Park near the Pacific Design Center, I had some trouble... more ›

WeHo Book Fair -- Something for Everyone

WeHo Book Fair -- Something for Everyone

The West Hollywood Book Fair, now in it's sixth year, will take over West Hollywood Park this Sunday from 10am - 6pm. We like to think of the WeHo book fair as the calmer, cooler cousin to the LA Times Festival of Books - great authors, excellent panels, live readings and good food - but much easier to navigate. As with any festival, planning the who/what/when is key...especially when trying to pack it all into one day. more ›

Single J Girl: No Love Triangle After All

Single J Girl: No Love Triangle After All

So Sports Guy and I have been seeing each other quite a bit these days, I’ve met his friends, he’s met mine (they all highly approve, or at least that’s what they say), we’ve gone out on the town, over to dive bars, to the movies and stayed in together. He even taught me a little about the Indy 500 and why the guy who won isn’t JUST Ashley Judd’s husband. He brought me to Hollywood Park and taught me about betting on horses, and I made him two indie rock mixes to expand his musical horizons from Jay Z and Biggie, which I think are currently the only CD’s in his car. more ›

Another Football Stadium Option

Another Football Stadium Option

These conversations happened for one of two reasons. Either the NFL wanted to formally elminate Carson from the process in a nice way, or it's really not satisfied with the other stadium options at the Coliseum, Rose Bowl, and in Anaheim. more ›

Good Samaritan, Bad Samaritan

LAist took this as a sign of karmic balance to compensate for the Bad Samaritan encounter we had last week: Our trust ATM card was cloned like a Scottish sheep and used to withdraw $1000 from our modest checking account. We think this happened, perhaps, during a casual swipe at a gas station, although we can't be too sure. more ›

LAist Quiz: Inaccurate Place Names in SoCal

The misnamed landmark is located in Inglewood, not Hollywood, and it's a race course, not a park. There is some tangential Hollywood connection since it was founded in 1938 as The Hollywood Turf Club by many film stars, directors and producers. more ›
