So we made some picks for the TV nominees. Why no movies? Because we're too busy watching TV. Hopefully the HFPA doesn't go out of their minds with Zooey Deschanel list and award a "show with potential" vs. "shows that have arrived."
TV Junkie: Golden Globes TV Picks
Ricky Gervais Will Host 2012 Golden Globes
After offending all kinds of Hollywood sensibilities for the past two years, Ricky Gervais is coming back to host the Golden Globes for a third time. The awards show is scheduled for January 15 of next year. NBC Los Angeles reports that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which oversees the event, had this to say about re-extending the invite to Gervais...
And The Wooden Gavel Goes To... Golden Globes Rights Case Goes To Trial
This morning, a U.S. District Court Judge ruled that the dispute between the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and long-standing Golden Globes producer, Dick Clark Productions, should go to trial over "the issue of rights to the Golden Globes franchise," says Deadline Hollywood.
Golden Globes Sue Back, Accuse Former Publicist of Fraud
Good luck trying to sue the Golden Globes for shady goings-on, because, as the awards organization's former publicist has just found out, you're going to get sued right back for fraud. Claiming a confidentiality agreement was broken, among other charges, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association "sued Michael Russell, his partner Stephen LoCascio and Russell’s public relations firm on Monday," says the AP.
Former Publicist Sues Golden Globes, Alleging Shady Conduct
Michael Russell, a onetime publicist for the annual Golden Globe awards, filed a lawsuit late yesterday against the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the group that puts on the annual showbiz spectacle, reports the Daily News. In his suit, Russell alleges that many HFPA members take part in "unethical and potentially unlawful" behavior he likens to "payola" schemes.
68th Annual Golden Globe Nominations: The Complete List
Hollywood is a-tingle this morning, and not because of the impending arrival of Christmas. Awards season is on the horizon, and this morning brought with the dawn the announcement of the nominees for the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards.
Honoring the best in film and television, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's awards are considered a strong, though not always accurate, indicator of the ensuing Oscar wins.
Saved! LACMA's Film Series will Continue with New Funding
To the shock of the film community last month, LACMA announced that come October, the beloved weekend film series would discontinue due to budget constraints. That prompted some advocacy and strong words from many, including director Martin Scorsese. "It comes as no surprise to me that the public is rallying," he wrote in an open letter printed in the LA Times. "People from all over the world are speaking out, because they see this action - correctly, I think - as a serious rebuke to film within the context of the art world."
Golden Globe Review: The Film Awards
Despite being thoroughly outed by Vikram Jayanti in his superb documentary, , the Globes do retain some credibility in certain quarters. I don't buy that they are any sort of barometer for Academy Award nominations, but they do give nominees the extra media attention that may tip an Oscar nod their way. That said, here's what I thought about tonight's results and what they may portend.
Golden Globes Unpicked On
As you know, the Golden Globes will not be so tony this year. Instead, it's a press conference. And as boring as a press conference is, what's even more, is superfluous picketing.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced that instead of the usual televised three-hour gala on NBC, the HFPA will take complete control of its 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards Announcement and host a press conference open to all media to announce the winners of the Golden Globes. In light of this change to the program, the WGA gave the HFPA our assurances that there would be no picket of their press conference on Sunday. [WGAW Press Release}

According to Deadline Hollywood Daily, the new format will be an "hour-long HFPA press conference at The Beverly Hilton to be covered live by NBC News beginning at 6:00 pm PST on January 13."
WGA Loves Tom Cruise; Golden Globes, Not So Much
The deed is done. The first large production company, United Artists (UA), has made a deal with the WGA and is going to get back to work, according to the AP (via LA Times). UA's parent company, MGM, is not included on the deal.
"United Artists has lived up to its name. UA and the Writers Guild came together and negotiated seriously. The end result is that we have a deal that will put people back to work," said Patric M. Verrone, president of the Writers Guild of America, West.more ›
