Water Main Break Causes Sinkhole in Historic Filipinotown Town

A 20-food-wide sinkhole developed in Historic Filipinotown this morning after a water main broke, reports the LA Times. At 12:48 a.m., an eight-inch cast iron pipe broke, cutting off service to about 30 homes, near Council and North Park View streets in HiFi. Water was shut off at 2 a.m. There are no reports of damage and crews hope to have everything fixed soon. more ›

This Motorcycle + Damage = Possible Suspect

On Monday, just before 1:00 p.m., Lauren Charles Black, a 62-year old resident of Los Angeles, was crossing Glendale Blvd at Rockwood Street (map below, looks to be in or near Historic Filipinotown) when he was struck by motorcyclist going northbound on Glendale Boulevard. The suspect left the scene of the accident without stopping to identify himself or render aid to the fallen victim and Mr. Black was taken to a local hospital in extremely critical condition.
