Japanese Ceramic Artist Hopes To Arrive In Time For LA Show
Today at Heath Ceramics an exhibition and sale of Japanese master potter Akio Nukaga's most recent hand-thrown pots and vessels is scheduled to open. The artist was headed to the opening when the devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami hit Japan this week. He is reportedly en route to Los Angeles from Kasama.

Playmountain, one of Japan’s most respected design and home interiors store, has set up a summer pop up shop at Heath Ceramics Los Angeles store. LAist popped in to the pop up to see what items have made the journey from Tokyo. Since 1948 Heath Ceramics has been an icon of California design. In 2003, husband and wife team, Robin Petravic and Catherine Bailey, purchased the company. Their shared mission was to revitalize the company, by placing a strong emphasis on design, while preserving Edith Heath’s handcrafted techniques and legacy. They continue to make the classic designs and new ones with the highest level of craftsmanship and quality.
