Photo by el daverino via the LAist Featured Photos pool on Flickr A Musical Valentine to Santa Monica: Sia just announced a last-minute show (definitely her last before Coachella!) for tomorrow, February 14th at 2PM in Santa Monica at the Starbucks Hear Music Coffeehouse on Third St. Promenade, first come first serve. She kicks off her North American tour the following day, Friday, in San Diego. The 15-year-old boy shot on Tuesday at a......

Starbucks is currently in the midst of doing a free Song of the Day promotion (see the complete list of 37 songs here), and last night, Hear Music, located on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, hosted an in-store performance by the LA-based indie Bitter:Sweet (MySpace) since their song "Heaven (Nicola Conte Remix)" was yesterday's giveaway. I've admittedly been a fan of Bitter:Sweet since their performance a year and a half ago at a......

OG mop-top, Sir Paul McCartney, will be playing a “secret” show at Amoeba Records on Wednesday June 27th at 7:30pm. That's tomorrow to you and me, kids. According to an LAist live-eye account, the camp out session began last night and has taken over the entire block. Sir Beatle is on the road in support of his new album, Memory Almost Full (Hear Music), proving once and for all that he did not in fact......

If you don’t know about the upcoming Angela Bassett-Laurence Fishburne flick, Akeelah and the Bee, then you probably haven’t stepped into your local Starbucks lately. This is the first venture by Starbucks Entertainment—the purveyors of those Starbucks Hear Music CDs that you peruse while waiting in line for your caffeine fix—into the world of film marketing and distribution, with Lionsgate films. According to a corporate press release: “Starbucks in-house creative team designed a multi-dimensional......

Today in the Daily Trojan there appeared the article "Record Penny-pinching," a profile of the best record stores in Los Angeles. While LAist can't fault the need for such a list—and the conclusion that Amoeba Music is the best in LA—there are some fairly notable omissions. Topping the list are Hear Music, Record Surplus, Virgin Megastore Hollywood, Aron's Records and Amoeba Music. Fine places, sure, but LAist finds fault with the skimpy selection. Los......
