The man Lakepa Tahi Fifita, 45, began choking his wife after they had an argument about finances. Police in Hawthorne are investigating a bizarre string of incidents that happened Wednesday night, leaving one man dead, a woman injured, and one man arrested. The chain of events began at 9:30 p.m. on Crenshaw Boulevard near the 105 Freeway, according to the LA Times, when a "minivan struck a man crossing the street." One agitated pedestrian is learning the pain of road rage after accidentally shooting himself in the leg during a confrontation on a Hawthorne Street. 21-year-old Dennis Vilchis of L.A. attempted to pull his handgun from his waistband to brandish at a motorist who didn't stop for his street-crossing Sunday morning "near the intersection of Prairie Avenue and El Segundo Boulevard," but wound up firing at his own thigh. The man accused of killing a married Hawthorne couple in a home-invasion robbery has been connected to two more murders, sheriff's deputies said today. John Wesley Ewell is now suspected to be behind the murder of an 80-year-old Hawthorne man and a 53-year-old Los Angeles woman who was his neighbor, according to KPCC. US Rep. Maxine Waters (D-35th District) will likely face an accusation "of at least one ethics violation in her efforts to help a bank with ties to her husband," according to LA Now. Waters was made aware of the allegations on Friday, and has told an anonymous source that she "plans to fight the charges in a House trial."
