Harvey Milk would have been 81 this May 22nd. In honor of the slain San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Governor Jerry Brown has declared his birthday "Harvey Milk Day" in California. "I call on all Californians to observe the 81st anniversary of Harvey Milk’s birth with appropriate ceremonies and activities," said Brown in his declaration.

Long Beach To Consider Naming Park After Harvey Milk
Harvey Milk became a household name when his story was immortalized by writer Dustin Lance Black and Sean Penn in the 2008 film, "Milk." Now, KABC reports that Long Beach residents will continue the effort to honor Milk, with a proposal to name a park after the openly gay San Francisco city supervisor who was gunned down in 1978. The Long Beach Press Telegram reports that the proposal was introduced on Monday by City Councilmember Robert Garcia, who is openly gay.

Pink's Hot Dogs were on hand over the weekend to participate in one of the local celebrations of Harvey Milk Day. At The Milk Party at Madame Tussauds in Hollywood, the longtime local hot dog-seller made use of their cherished foodstuffs to show their support for the slain San Francisco civic leader who refused to let his sexuality keep him from making a difference in his community.
