Tonight critically acclaimed Sussex-based pop rockers Keane will be headlining the Greek Theatre. Nashville-based alternative rock super-group the Dead Weather are poised to perform at the Hollywood Palladium with none other than Austin-based garage rockers Harlem (LAist Interview, Review, #2) Irish folk pop duo the Guggenheim Grotto will be taking on the third night of their month-long residency at the Hotel Café in celebration of their third studio-album, 2010's The Universe Is Laughing, warming up the stage for Chris Shiflett of Foo Fighters fame. LAist favorites, local lo-fi pop trio Pearl Harbor, who are currently operating under the moniker Puro Instinct, and Memphis-bred orchestral pop outfit Magic Kids are slated to kick things off.
Matador Records Lost Weekend Tickets On Sale Tomorrow
Matador Records has announced that tickets for its’ 21st anniversary celebration in Las Vegas will go on sale tomorrow morning at 9am PST via ticketfly.com. As previously mentioned on LAist, the three day “Lost Weekend” music fest, will take place over October 1-3 at the Pearl Theater inside the Palms Casino. Given the ridiculous lineup and the fact that the Pearl has a capacity of 2,100, getting tickets might be akin to a crapshoot. But hey, a little gambling alongside our indie rock is part of what makes this such an appealing gig in the first place.
Harlem and Dante vs Zombies @ Spaceland, 2/20/10
When Dante vs. Zombies took the stage, from a purely visual standpoint, it looked as if someone had gone to a hipster party, picked out five random attendants, and said, "You guys are now in a band." There was the bassist in a full on red jumpsuit with a cowboy hat and boots, the guitarists who were in nerdy prep garb, the keyboardist who had a folk vibe about her, the drummer who looked like he just got off his shift at the hospital, and the lead singer who was dressed in a golden nightie and a hat that looked like it may have belonged to Paul Revere. None of which left any clues as to what sort of music they were going to play.
LAist On Location: Noise Pop Fest 2010 Day Two
A day late and several dollars short, we are nonetheless thrilled to bring you our exciting account of day two at Noise Pop Fest in lovely San Francisco. And how was it? We're looking for a word that combines "mildly interested" with "nepotism". The festival remains fantastic, overall, but on day two (that's Wednesday, Feb. 24, for those of you paying attention) we chose our shows somewhat unwisely and saw not 1, but two children of musical legends, and a garage band so authentic they're more like historical reenactors than musicians.
Tonight In Rock: Andrew Bird, Brendan Benson, Fanfarlo, Harlem
Tonight Raconteurs guitarist, Michigan-bred singer-songwriter Brendan Benson will be headlining the Troubadour. London's own indie pop act Fanfarlo are poised to take on the El Rey Theatre with none other than Brooklyn-bred singer-songwriter April Smith & the Great Picture Show. And, lastly, Austin-based garage rockers Harlem will be gracing Spaceland. But we strongly suggest heading over to USC's Bovard Auditorium to catch Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird (LAist Review).

CD Review: Spanish Harlem Orchestra's 'United We Swing'
Artist: Spanish Harlem Orchestra Album: United We Swing Release Date: May 2007 Label: Six Degrees Records I don't pretend to be a connoisseur of Latin music: my collection includes a couple Esquivel CDs, Cal Tjader (on red vinyl!), Herb Alpert, Stan Getz, and the Big Latin Band of Henry Mancini - this all pure cheeseball of course.
