Savoring the Simple Charms of Bastide

In its almost decade of business, Bastide--the French restaurant tucked into a pocket of Melrose Place--has earned a reputation as being elegant, avant garde, ever-evolving, and for some, a bit unapproachable. This summer, however, the courtyard of Bastide is opening up its gates to welcome in customers for a sort of getting-to-know you weekly special that includes wine and cocktails and small bites for the very approachable price of $15. more ›

WeHo's Sunset Strip Revs up for a Busy Summer of Happy Hours & Food Trucks

Chef Ben Ford Wants to Buy You a Beer

One sure fire way to make a Happy Hour even happier is to make the beer free, right? Need a Getaway? Mammoth Has Foot of Fresh Snow, Loads of Specials

Black Friday burnout? Couch Potato syndrome? If you are thinking about escaping the clutches of Los Angeles, the folks at Mammoth Mountain would be happy to see you. Early this morning @MammothMountain Tweeted: "12" of fresh snow at Main Lodge this morning; more snow expected throughout the day!" This is thanks to the blustery weather system that crept down the state overnight and brought a little (early) winter white to our mountain sides. more ›

dineLA October 2009: Essex Public House

It's always a little curious when you arrive at one of the many eateries participating in dineLA's popular restaurant week and they don't hand you the dineLA menu. As a diner there to check out a spot you've maybe never been to before this means things can get off to a rocky start when right out of the gate you have to wonder if you were mistaken, or if the dineLA crowd is really all that welcome where you are. (Baffling, right? After all, restaurants choose to participate, so why not pimp it?) You know that "new kid" feeling? Yeah, that's the one. more ›

The Hungry Cat's new Happy Hour, Prix Fixe, Crab Fest!

Satisfaction in Downtown Culver City

Satisfaction in Downtown Culver City

Last Wednesday, I spent happy hour at Ugo Wine Bar in Culver City. The week before, we spent it at Bottle Rock (where I've had a great time on the weekend), which was disappointing. It was loud, the service was slow and the food was expensive. Ugo Wine Bar was exactly the opposite and it was such a pleasure. We thought it was Vinum Populi, and it used to be, but these days, it's part of the Ugo empire. more ›
