It's always a little curious when you arrive at one of the many eateries participating in dineLA's popular restaurant week and they don't hand you the dineLA menu. As a diner there to check out a spot you've maybe never been to before this means things can get off to a rocky start when right out of the gate you have to wonder if you were mistaken, or if the dineLA crowd is really all that welcome where you are. (Baffling, right? After all, restaurants choose to participate, so why not pimp it?) You know that "new kid" feeling? Yeah, that's the one.

Football & Food's 4-H Club: Happy Hour at Henry's Hat

Food and drink can definitely make football more fun (or for those who prefer their pig skin on the plate and not in a pass, palatable). Henry's Hat (Twitter), the recently opened eatery that sits conveniently in the Cahuenga Pass (you know--between "here" and "there" for those who travel either way over the proverbial hill) has some great Happy Hour offerings, with some extra fun in place for Monday Night Football.

The Hungry Cat's new Happy Hour, Prix Fixe, Crab Fest!

The Hungry Cat in Hollywood has always been a great spot to sidle up to the bar and order a plate full of oysters and a delicious specialty cocktail (and the restaurant's signature blue cheese burger & fries, if you're really hungry). But the deals are getting better by the day at their Hollywood location: they've extended their happy hour so that you can booze it up on half-price cocktails and draft beers from 12p-6p.

New Happy Hour: Summer Fridays at Viceroy

For a fun, swank and, more importantly, cheap way to kick off the summer, hit up the new happy hour "Summer Fridays" poolside at the Cameo Bar in the Viceroy Santa Monica. Starting tomorrow from 2 to 6 p.m., boozers on a budget can enjoy drink specials dictated by the time of day. Get there early at 2 p.m. to snag a glass of wine, well drink and beer for only two bucks each. If you wait until 5:59, your drinks will be $5 each, still not too shabby a deal.

Cinco De Mayo Drink Specials Roundup

If you still don't know where to get your drink on for Cinco de Mayo, check out the following festive venues. Arriba drink deals!

Happy Hour Deals at Wokcano

Okay, so it's not Nobu -- but who has the bank account to handle $200 sushi fests nowadays? Wokcano offers good happy hour prices in convenient locations for your after-work bitch fests -- the menu will make even the sushi-shy happy. And hey, if you don't have a job, then you can get to happy hour that much earlier! From 4-7pm, sneak in a cocktail or two and some creative rolls like The Black Pearl and the Late Night Party Roll (crabmeat, avocado, scallops, and lobster). Yeah, maybe you sushi purists should show yourselves the door, but who's going to argue with lychee martinis and Asian bloody Marys? Not this girl.

What better way for a Los Angeles bar to celebrate our city than with astrology cocktails? Yup, X Bar in Century City, has perhaps the funnest theme cocktail menu idea we've seen in a long time. They have created 12 cocktails ($12 each) to represent the zodiac signs and will only serve each sign's cocktail during the dates of that particular sign. Not clear? Well, right now since we're in Pisces, so you can try the Pisces cocktail through March 21, followed up by the Aries cocktail.

New Happy Hour: Copa d'Oro's $5 Classic Cocktails

New Santa Monica bar, Copa d'Oro, has kicked off its new happy hour featuring a "happy depression menu." So now you can enjoy some of their fabulous market-fresh cocktails for only $5! And we're not talking the sort of drinks you usually find at happy hours around the city. No apple martinis or mixed well cocktails, but actual vintage favorites.

Last Wednesday, I spent happy hour at Ugo Wine Bar in Culver City. The week before, we spent it at Bottle Rock (where I've had a great time on the weekend), which was disappointing. It was loud, the service was slow and the food was expensive. Ugo Wine Bar was exactly the opposite and it was such a pleasure. We thought it was Vinum Populi, and it used to be, but these days, it's part of the Ugo empire.

Suede Bar, downtown's newest lounge, opened last week with little fanfare. Can the red suede bar that promises "beautiful staff" and a "sexy ambience" save The Westin Bonaventure from its tacky self or is it just more of the same?

It stands to reason that sometimes a good Happy Hour is hard to find in this town. But give us one that combines drink bargains with sushi and you've got our attention. If you're either coming or going on (Big) Santa Monica between the beach and WeHo or those general environs after a hard day's work, Century City's KULA Sushi Bistro's Happy Hour would make a worthy stopping point. Between 5-7 Monday-Friday evenings, the restaurant has discounted drink specials and half-price high-quality sushi at the bar in a comfortable and unpretentious environment.

Wonder where all your favorite bartenders from Seven Grand, the downtown whiskey bar, have gone?

For those of us who would prefer to have cheap drinks at a happier hour than early evening, The Mint has the answer: Midnight Happy Hour. Finlandia drinks are only a $1.

  • Big Wang's, Hollywood: Another location opening in North Hollywood soon! Tequila Tuesday from 7-10pm, $1 tacos, $2 tequila shots, margaritas, and Tecate.

  • RocknRollDating.com is the creation of Eagle Rock resident and music industry veteran, Daniel House. He has created the free online dating site with music as the coming-together concept. Put in your favorite bands and concerts, your preferred genres and the normal dating profile stats such as heights, sex, etc. and go find your mate based on the tunes you share in common. Or maybe you'll find someone who will let you experience new music.

Fie upon those who wish downfall upon the Westside! We shall smite thee with our flaming elven sword. (That's how we talk to LAist staffers who aren't behaving; nothing whips a writing team into shape like a little dangerous elf talk.) We will now stop being nerds and give you incentive to visit the Westside. Here are some more happy hour specials that'll make you wish you lived on the beachier side of life. Smell that fresh air? Feel that breeze? That's called the ocean. It's why you live in California. Westsiders know that -- why don't you drink to it?

Devoted LAist reader Ashley requested a Westside version of Deacon Booze -- and as a former long-time resident of the Westsiiiiiiiiide, I'm more than happy to oblige. Here are some of my top spots for drinks in West LA -- (and trust me when I say I have TESTED these places more than a few times). Why not email me your picks for when you find yourself west of the 405? carrie@laist.com. Did I tell you love email? I sure do. Sigh. [Hits refresh.] Siiiiigh. [Refresh. Refresh.] SIIIIIIIIGGHHHH.

Is it still raining? Seriously? Sigh. Since the wet weather is making me loathe to venture very far away from my office, here's a few happy hour spots in Hollywood that were recommended by reader Klodi B. (Okay, and one in Highland Park, but whatevs.) Anyway, she emailed me with her animal-themed picks. I like emails. I like 'em a whole lot, especially when they are all about cheap booze. Or animals. I'm not picky! So make me happy, won't you? Send your secret spots and recommendations my way at carrie@laist.com.

Dudes, it's raining, I know, but that doesn't mean there's still not cheap booze to be found in this city tonight! Here's a few more we managed to dig up this week -- send your secret spots and recommendations my way at carrie@laist.com.

Dudes, it's become clear to me that just by walking about whatever fine neighborhood you happen to reside in (NoHo, WeHo, SilLake, DnTn, SanMo, KTown, HanPark, CulCity, etc), you're bound to happen upon a great little bar with great happy hour deals. Fer instance: this week I was walking around Downtown and ran into some friends, who happily guided me to the Redwood Bar & Grill, a fun and surprisingly classy little pirate bar near Disney Hall. Do they have an awesome happy hour? You betcha.

It ends tonight at 9 p.m., and really, an art walk is more fun at night anyway. Tonight lends itself well as a great chance to go see © Murakami Exhibit at the MOCA that we told you about back in October. If not that, from comedy to smaller art galleries, the Downtown Art Walk is worth a trek to LA's central core. And if you head towards The Edison first, happy hour runs 'til 7 p.m. with 35-cent martinis. Run, run!

What better way to get 2008 started than with some cheap booze at some happening city spots? Here's a few more we managed to dig up this week -- send your secret spots and recommendations my way at carrie@laist.com. Yes, some of these are later than the usual after-work happy hour, but I know you L.A. kids -- you can't be bothered to go out before at least 9pm, so enjoy some after-hours drink deals just the same!

I'm still waiting for all your hot happy hour tips, Los Angeles! We'll be posting happy hour listings at least a few times weekly in 2008; send your secret spots and recommendations my way at carrie@laist.com.

  • From reader David: Dragon on the Hermosa Beach Pier, "Lucky Hour" from 4-9PM every day: They have a different special each day. "Yesterday I had kobe satay for $5 and drinks were 2 for 1."

  • Winter really gets me down. It's cold, it's rainy, everybody's on vacation except for me. Worst of all, when I get off work every evening, it's already dark outside. Can we say SADS? So how best to beat the winter blues? Why, BOOZE, of course, the cheaper the better, and there are a ton of happy hours and special events taking place across the city that will lighten your holiday-heavy heart without lightening your wallet.

MUSIC: CalTech isn’t just about nerdy rocket scientists. They have glee clubs, too! All kidding aside, tonight's concert will feature traditional holiday favorites as well as the Women's Club taking on Porpora’s Magnificat, written in the 1730s. 8 pm // Dabney Lounge at California Institute of Technology // 1200 East California Blvd., Pasadena // Free. DANCE: From CalTech, we’ll head over to CalArts in Valencia. The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance is holding its...

Dear WGA: Being Thanksgiving weekend and all, I have spent a lot of time the last few days thinking about what I am thankful for. I am very thankful that I have been able to make a living as a writer. I am thankful that every day I am able to do something creative, something I love. As I’ve walked the picket lines, I’ve been very thankful for the overwhelming support I’ve felt from...

As Guest Day Editor, Siel, a.k.a Green LA Girl, will be joining LAist with a few posts throughout today. Read her interview here and check out her site. Drinking and driving isn't cool -- Which is why I made the logical decision to ditch the car a few months ago. Now, not only can I drink all I want most nights, I also have a few hundred extra bucks for my drink budget each month....
