Tonight LA is deprived of particularly noteworthy shows. Jon Brion will be playing here and Princeton will be playing there. We've got the second night of Canadian singer-songwriters Tegan and Sara's sold-out four-date stint at the Henry Fonda Music Box. And for the second night this week the newly-renovated Palladium will be hosting hip-hop. If we had tickets, then we'd probably stay for the Roots and pass on the Heroes. But for the first time in a very long while, we suggest heading over to the Viper Room to catch Brisbane-based the Boat People. They'll be blasting their exemplary brit-pop tunes tomorrow night as well, but why not be among the first in LA to see them?

The point of the show is to showcase videos, and music. Pete Wentz throws to videos, a panel of three video experts (including Travis McCoy from Gym Class Heroes) critiques the video premieres, artists from the premiering video chat with Pete, the studio audience votes on the videos with text messages, AND bands come in to perform live.

As we mentioned in our interview with Questlove, LAist was on the red carpet for the 5th Annual Roots Jam Session at the Key Club in West Hollywood. While we were hoping that this post would serve as a review of the best live band in the world jamming the night away with a little help from some of their friends, we'll happily settle for the chance to rub elbows with the big names, not-so-big names, and what's their names? that walked the red carpet on Saturday night in support of Rock the Vote and The Roots.

Last Labor Day weekend I desperately needed to escape the disagreeable, torturous heatwave. So I made a last minute decision to fly to Seattle and bumbershoot. As luck would have it, my spontaneity provided for a much more temperate and rainless 70 degree haven. The Bumbershoot Festival has been running 37 years strong and every year it seems to progress into a bigger and better animal. Situated within the spacious Seattle Center amidst the...

Although they always have pretty good lineups, San Diego's Street Scene never seems to get our attention. Until now. Today they announced that The Killers, Muse, Panic! at the Disco, Social Distortion, Air, Arctic Monkeys, Too $hort, G. Love, The Editors, The Academy Is..., Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah, Gym Class Heroes, Mute Math, Honeycut, Ozomatli and others will play their two day festival down by the ocean in Del Mar, but what...

A Word or 76: CBS lineup tonight is wiped out by the CMAs and unless you are up for a Sir Laurence Olivier marathon on TCM then there's no movies on. I'm getting kind of sick of the parade of authors on late night TV, particularly Comedy Central - who the eff has time to read when there's so much bad TV? Speaking of bad TV, we're down to the final 3 on both...

A Word or 24(!): Don't forget Jake Gyllenhaal hosting "SNL" on Saturday, and then on Sunday the season premieres of "24" (Fox, 8:00 p.m.) and "Rome" (HBO, 9:00 p.m.). Tonight - Friday - January 12, 2007 "The Killers" (TCM, 7:15 p.m.) Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardner star in this '46 noir classic. Bree McGuire, one of Buzznet's Content Editors, is surrounded by new music all day long. Buzznet was at dozens of music fests and events last year and is super tight with the emo superstars Fall Out Boy, which is why we were stoked that she agreed to tune us in to what she was tuned in to last year...
