Multiple People Robbed at Gunpoint in Craigslist Car Scam

A number of people in the Western San Fernand Valley have fallen victim to a ploy by two gun-wielding robbers who post cheap cars on Craigslist, arrange a time place to meet and ask the victim to bring cash. A number of them have occurred on De Soto Avenue and Vanowen Street between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The LAPD says if you do buy a car off Craigslist, do not take cash and to meet a public place such as a bank or DMV office. Both suspects are described as Hispanic males between 25 and 30 and 130 pounds. One is about 5'7" and the other 5'10". Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact robbery detectives at (818) 756-3523. During off-hours, call 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (527-3247). The 9-year-old who brought a gun to an El Monte elementary school yesterday said he was just trying to show it off to classmates. Problem is, the gun accidentally discharged when he pulled it out of the backpack. And the even bigger issue here is how the hell did he get the gun? Well, he said he found it at his grandmother's house. Apparently, the kid will face charges and the grandma may face charges of storing the gun negligently, according to the Associated Press.

3rd Time's a Charm: Another Man Brings a Gun to LAX

For the third time in four days, LA Airport Police have arrested a man for bringing a gun to LAX. "Markus Dane Sargent, 27, was taken into custody about 7 a.m. on World Way West, which is used by employees getting into the airport, Airport Police Sgt. Jim Holcomb said," via wire reports. "An antique .22-caliber long rifle made by the Marlin Firearms Co. loaded with 12 rounds was found in the trunk of his car at a perimeter checkpoint, Holcomb said." Like Saturday's incident, Sargent, who worked for an airport vendor, forgot that he had the gun in his car. And to boot, he was busted for possession of a small amount of marijuana--double tsk. On both Friday and Saturday in unrelated cases, men were arrested for bringing guns onto airport grounds.

A man reportedly "firing shots into the air and threatening his family during a holiday party" was shot and killed by LAPD Officers early this morning. Around 12:30 a.m., officers arrived at the party, evacuated the attendees and searched the Panorama City residence for the suspect. It was two hours before they found a man in a garage crawl space. "The man was armed, and three officers opened fire, according to preliminary reports" reported the LA Times. "Police did not say whether the man also shot his weapon, pending an LAPD investigation of the officer-involved shooting." (For clarification: homicide is a human killing a human and does not indicate a criminal murder).

Councilmen Ed Reye's office is gearing up to announce a $50,000 reward tomorrow for a tip that will lead to the capture and prosecution of whoever shot a man standing inside his apartment hallway.

For the second time in two days, a bank robbery has struck Los Angeles. The two suspects got away.

The LAPD is calling this an 'Accidental Discharge," which could be taken to a whole new level when out of context. Well, anyway...

Because an ex-convict told police there were weapons in his car after he was arrested for having a gun, which he accidentally left inside his jacket at a sushi restaurant at Hollywood & Highland. The bomb squad was deployed, but after a search, the scene was cleared. Earlier in the evening, the restaurant called police when they found his jacket with the gun in it. Officers were waiting when he came back to pick up the jacket. He was arrested and that's when he triggered the investigation inside the parking garage.

A man shot in San Pedro early this morning later died at the hospital. It happened at 2:43 a.m. this morning when a Hispanic male in an SUV drove-by another Hispanic male and shot him at 1125 S. The LAPD now has the suspect's vehicle, but so far, no witnesses have come forward and further details are pending, according to Officer Mobasser, a spokesperson for the LAPD.

Why do all these songs about frostbite conditions sound so wonderful in sun-drenched shirtless reverb? Ever try pushing a sled through sand? I don't recommend it. But I heartily recommend each of the following experiences. Don't worry, we'll get to more Beach Boys later on, today (with the exception of track four) it's all about those chiming guitars. THE VENTURES - Sleigh Ride This comes from their fantastic Christmas album, one of the greats...

This weekend marks the height of the "celebrity" dog-and-pony shows for the Democrats: Hillary Clinton brought daughter Chelsea (we wondered where she was) and her momma Dorothy Rodham on the campaign trail in Iowa. And Barack Obama brought out the big gun -- Oprah Winfrey -- to Iowa and South Carolina. But Republicans have friends in Hollywood, too. Mike Huckabee, former governor of Arkansas, also has his own celebrity endorsement: Chuck Norris. Yup. Walker...

Before we all start shaking in our Ugg boots, rest assured that the mecca of trend and materialism known as The Grove has been spared from international threat. The LA Times is reporting that 20 year-old Jarrad Willis of Melbourne, Australia, has been arrested by authorities in his home country for allegedly threatening on a blog to cause some kind of harm to The Grove. He's been charged with something called "creating a false belief"...

He's 30, he spells his name funny, when he's not injured he's tearing the cover off the ball, and he's got a gun for an arm. If he passes his physical Andruw Jones will be on the happy end of a $36.2 million, two-year contract to play for the Dodgers. But should Dodger fans be happy about another outfielder, especially one who had such a miserable season last year (.222 batting average, .311 on-base...

Since 2001, about 230 people have died in the U.S. after being shocked with a Taser. One of the most recent incidents was in an unincorporated part of South LA last Friday night when a 32-year-old man died after being shocked twice by LA County Sheriffs. Apparently, Cesar Silver was under drugs or alcohol and fought and struggled with five sheriffs before the Taser gun was brought out. "Eyewitnesses indicated there was a real struggle....

Don't know what to get for the gun toting rifleman who has everything? In San Francisco, turning that rifle in to authorities will net you a cool $100 gift card. Eh, you say? OK, how about $200 for AK-47s? I wonder how that conversation might go at home: Honey, where is my gun? Oh, I turned it in sweety, for $100 worth of movie rentals. You did what? Guns don't kill people, gift cards...
