Friday As part of First Fridays on Abbot Kinney, Altered Space Gallery in Venice hosts an evening with Master Craftsman Richard Patterson. Patterson’s artistic furniture made with hand made dowels, and other joints (not a single nail!) along with many other hand crafted tools is functional, modern, and a little surreal. An impressive Dali meets Herman Miller interpretation on practical pieces. Invitations for this one night only exhibit of Patterson’s one-of-a-kind works are available by......

Photographer Colin R. Brown, who is known for his eerie pictures of the Griffith Park Fire, was heading to lunch downtown when he came upon the aftermath of a bank robbery. He e-mails us so share what he saw yesterday. J-Bird and I went for lunch at Clifton's Cafeteria and Bank of America was robbed. I thought the red was blood but of course it's from an ink packet. When the ink pack exploded......

Colin Brown found himself in a part of Griffith Park this weekend that won't be open until winter, so he did what any good American would do, he took pictures. Some of the pictures he took are haunting and sad and interesting and just plain weird, as blogging.la reveals. But the one that struck our fancy was the one above. Because through all that fire, and all that heat, this celebrity porn sucked it......

Dear LAist, Any idea whether or not modest mouse will still be playing the greek this Sunday? Love, Andrea of Burbank Dear Andrea, One of the great things about being LAist is we have the email addresses of everyone important. The 10th Annual Los Angeles Arbor Day Festival is the latest casualty of the Griffith Park Fire. In a tragic irony, California Wildfire Awareness week will not be ending with a celebration of LA's 4,000-acre urban forest as originally planned. The fest was scheduled as part of the Million Trees LA initiative. Saturday IS Fire Service Recognition Day. Tons of options for family fun on what's forecast to be a beautiful spring weekend after......

As the hills in Los Feliz and Griffith Park burn, we passed by this grassy median at Los Feliz Blvd. and Vermont where we saw this gentleman laying on his back watching the fire inbetween snores. We got as close to the fire as they would allow us and we took this video and other pictures below. If you've got photos, upload them on Flickr and tag them laist and we will possibly include......

125 firefighters and five water-dropping helicopters are attacking a fire that is being fanned by 10 MPH winds. Captain Antoine McKnight was on KCAL news a few minutes ago saying that approximately 30 acres have burned. The Griffith Park Zoo, the golf course, the observatory, the boys camp, the merry-go-round, the magnet school, the Gene Autry museum have all been evacuated. Later when pushed by KCAL anchors, he pushed the estimate of damage to......
