Narbonne High School Gauchos (Harbor City) defeat Crenshaw High School Cougars 25-24. After trailing the Cougars 24-17 at half time, the Gauchos could not get anything going on offense in the second half. Fortunately their defense showed up and held the Cougars scoreless also. All hope looked lost when the Gauchos couldn't convert on a fourth down on Crenshaw's 31 yard line with six minutes left to go. Fortunately Crenshaw inexplicably went for it on a fourth-and-two play on their 39 yard line and were stopped by the Gaucho defense. The Gauchos went in for a touchdown and converted on a two-point conversion to win the game.

Tampa Bay Rays defeat LA Angels 6-4. It seemed conceivable at the beginning of the season that the Angels would be fighting for the best record in baseball with a team from the AL East in August. The inconceivable part of this is the team they are fighting with is the Tampa Bay Rays. The Angels went into St. Petersburg trying to withstand the Rays who had swept the series back in May at Tropicana Field and have won four of six in total from the Angels. Angel's starter Jon Garland giving up five runs in three innings is not the way to win in this sort of situation. Although the Angels had plenty of chances down the stretch to take the lead, the Rays' bullpen made the perfect pitches when needed. Now both teams will wait and see what happens with Tropical Storm Fay (not Fay Vincent) to see if they can play the next couple of games.

Don't know what to get for the gun toting rifleman who has everything? In San Francisco, turning that rifle in to authorities will net you a cool $100 gift card. Eh, you say? On a day that can only be called lackluster, the Dodgers came to Milwaukee aboard a red eye flight that kept them sleepless and restless for the next day's game. On Sunday afternoon the Dodgers were roughed up by the Colorado Rockies by a score of 12 to 5. The loss had ended a 7-game winning streak for the Blue Crew. Then, they boarded an evening flight that landed them in Wisconsin at midnight for an afternoon game less than 13 hours away. Compounding the team's tired state the Dodgers headed to a hotel that was hosting the Armenian Youth Federation Convention. Frolicking kids enjoying their youthful exuberance welcomed the team early Monday morning. Needless to say, the remnants of empty bottles and weary youths in the hotel lobby later that morning can tell you all about the potential state of mind of the team as the game started promptly at 1:00 PM.
