Local Street Artist Lands Madonna Album Cover

Mr. Brainwash, aka MBW, is no stranger to Madonna (remember his Optical illusion mural of Britney and Madonna kissing?). Now one of his ubiquitous street poster works of the pop singer has been chosen as the album cover art for her "Celebration" album, due out on September 29th.

LAist gets and listens to a Lot of music. You can see the bands we like in the concerts that we review, the Tonight in Rock listings that we compile, and in the cds that we review. But we realize that we listen to way more music than we review so we figured we make a list once a week letting you know what we're into. week ending 3/31/07 Arcade Fire - Neon Bible...

No offense to the local boys, but we are far more excited to check out the Arcade Fire on Saturday night of Coachella than the Chili Peppers. Which is why we're crossing our fingers that Win Butler, the lead singer and genius behind the Arcade Fire will have successful sinus surgery. Butler announced yesterday on the band's website that for three months he's been suffering from a sinus and bronchial infection and canceling the rest of their Euro tour and getting surgery has become a must.

Nothing says I love you, quite like poor compression. Here to express how I feel about this week’s On The Charts, using only this week’s Billboard No.1s, is a video diary of my deepest sentiments.

Beyonce continues to bully the charts. And far too many people think that buying Kenny G CDs is an appropriate use of money. I know we can do better than this. I humbly present this week's offering of classic crooners, underground rappers, David Bowie, heavy metal, art rock, prog rock, and even a little yacht rock. 'Tis a pity we are built with only two ears.

Asher Garber was born and mostly raised in the Valley. He saw "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" during its first weekend run at the Pacific 4 in the Sherman Oaks Galleria. An alum of Oakwood High in NoHo and UCSB, Asher eventually moved to Austin, TX where he owns and operates Room 710, one of the original Red River rock clubs, all while desperately trying hard to actually finish his first real live, no-shit-I’ve-got-one,...

Watching Noel Gallagher playing on stage at the Wadsworth Theatre Thursday night was like hanging out with an obnoxious, older brother you haven’t seen in a few years. He definitely looked older, more mature, with an increased abundance of life experience under his belt, but once he opened his mouth, the same obnoxious jerk you remembered from years ago never left; Noel is still that same bratty Brit, and it’s comforting to know that not much has changed in the last ten years.

In the mid 80s LAist pumped gas at the Union 76 on Santa Monica and Beverly Glen right near Century City.

Of the best acts at Coachella this year, Wolfmother were on the elite short list. Afroed, sabbathed, intense, and suprisingly soulful, the Aussie trio reached back into the 70s and brought back all the dark pleasures of Ozzy, Zeppelin, and even Yes, chock-full of beefy guitar and keyboard action.

Do you realize that The Replacements' "Let It Be" is 22 years old? Indeed, if "Unsatisfied" was a chick, she could buy you a drink at the swinging party. In 1997 Warner Bros put together a 34-track double disc of Replacements "hits" called "All For Nothing / Nothing For All" but none of their earlier groundbreaking Twin/Tone material was included.

In a city with such a large Latino audience, LAist is surprised at the lack of coverage of the 6th Annual Latin Grammys. Perhaps the awards are still ahead of the curve. After being aired on CBS for several years (and garnering low ratings) this year the Latin Grammys moved to Univision, the leading domestic Spanish-speaking language network. The awards were broadcast in Spanish for the first time, which makes perfect sense to us--and perhaps explains why they failed on CBS.
