Now, grand jury testimony from a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power employee suggests that if the Alarcons in fact lived there, they were doing so in the dark without doing much washing up, according to the LA Times. more ›

Orange County Fails to Notify Public of Failing Restaurants

A grand jury report released today (.pdf) said that Orange County patrons of food institutions are hardly notified of the conditions inside the restaurant. Unlike Los Angeles County where A-B-C grades are posted in the front window, Orange County restaurants only have to display placards saying they are either "in substantial compliance" with food-safety standards, or awaiting a re-inspection, according to the OC Register. The report says that the public is "almost universally unaware" of the placards. more ›

Enemy of the City: Why I hope Barry Bonds breaks his leg before he breaks Hank Aaron's home run record

Enemy of the City: Why I hope Barry Bonds breaks his leg before he breaks Hank Aaron's home run record

The Dodgers just finished a three-game series in San Francisco against their upstate rivals. There was a sense of expectation over the whole thing, as Barry Bonds is at 751 career home runs, only four away from tying Hank Aaron's all-time record (755) and the boys in Blue managed to stop him from adding to that total over the weekend -- Bonds was 0-11 against LA. But I'm personally hoping Bonds, who is in... more ›

God Grew Tired of Us

God Grew Tired of Us

Last night I attended a screening of the 2006 Sundance Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award winning documentary God Grew Tired of Us, directed by Christopher Quinn. Fine, maybe I went because Brad Pitt was listed as one of the producers and I thought he and Angie might show, which they didn’t, but it was still worth the trafficky drive up the 405 freeway to where the screening and a panel discussion were scheduled at American Jewish University. more ›

Fox News. We Lie. You Laugh.

Fox News. We Lie. You Laugh.

Not a TOTAL lie, as Irve Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Jr. actually was found not guilty of one of the 5 charges leveled against him. FoxNews.com has regressed from the "fair and balanced" schtick to an even more ridiculous "We report. You Decide." Now that's pretty commanding when spoken by apes. Anyway, for those of you keeping score at home, the Libby trial has gone the Martha Stewart route, as in, he lost, although he... more ›
