We always hear about Improv Everywhere pulling crazy stunts off in New York City, like five-minutes of frozen time at Grand Central or no-pants on the subway. Well, after a small improvised pillow fight at the Glendale mall (video below), the new LA Chapter of the collaborative pulled off their first major mission: a spontaneous musical at Baldwin Hills Mall, starting off with the Hot Dog On A Stick girl. Eventually a cast of......

Chino's Westland/Hallmark Meat Company came into the spotlight recently when secret video footage revealed staff was mistreating the animals. On the heels of this week's news that the slaughterhouse's manager could face several years in prison if charged with animal cruelty comes the news that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has recalled 143 million pounds of their frozen beef, making it "the largest beef recall in the United States," according to the Daily News. The......

Pretty cool. The group responsible is Improv Everywhere. The whole thing kind of reminds me of "Out of This World".........

Am in a post-Super Bowl stupor. The commercials were so-so, I wasn't unduly impressed, and the halftime show was terrible, they practically had to frickin' wheel Tom Petty and his aging cronies out there. Going for it on 4th and 13?? That made me almost as sick as the above clip. 8:30pm Duty Free TV: Unbeatable Banzuke/Super Big Product Fun Show G4 - Series Premiere. The series is a combination of Super Big Product......

Banner week for SFist as the site's new editor introduced himself -- hooray for Brock! While the NY Times weighed in on SF's mayoral race, only SFist had the (insert tongue firmly into cheek) hard-hitting latest on candidate/activist Josh Wolf. Coverage of a protest vs. gentrification spawned a fantastic debate amongst SFist's readers. Finally, from the sublime to the ridiculous: video of a man that confused a Board of Supes meeting with "open mic......

The Grand Central Market has sold meats, veggies and more since 1917. It reaches from Broadway to Hill between 3rd and 4th in downtown LA. In addition to the groceries on hand, it has a dozen stalls serving prepared food (mmmm, pupusas) and one liquor store in the corner. The neighborhood has come up with all the new downtown lofts, but you can still find people buying their Mad Dog at the booze counter,......

Sometimes grabbing an ice cream cone on a mellow LA evening can be a quick, inexpensive, and wholly satisfying thing. Having recently found ourselves exiting the Red Line at Pershing Square, on our merry way to an evening of Grand Performances, we were presented with the idea of snagging a cone at the just about to close for the evening Grand Central Market. The Market happens to be one of our favorite destinations for......

Because you can, at Grand Central's newest eating venue, find a teriyaki beef bento box on the menu, with contents described in English, Japanese, and Spanish. Yes, Spanish. We're not vouching for the quality. We tried the ramen breakfast special, and must say that it is only so-so. For the uninitiated, Grand Central Market is about cheap plate lunches and really, really cheap produce. But seriously, people--how else would you know that crispy shrimp......

Egads, the weather has been lovely lately, hasn't it? Makes us almost ready to forgive Mother Nature for the torrential rains, winds, and mud. Last weekend was so nice that we thought we ought to get out of the house and into the heart of the city, so we did a little "resident tourist" number and plotted out a hearty walk and photo-taking tour of some spots in downtown LA. We started off the......
