"orange chair with cushion," by kpe II via LAist Featured Photos Pool on Flickr A steady stream of Koreans moving into the northwest San Fernando Valley suburbs is giving the traditional K-Town in LA City a run for its money. Now you Valley-ists might not have to travel over the hill for karaoke bars. Japanese and Los Angeles police detectives solved a 26-year-old case of a Japanese business man who allegedly shot his wife......

As a devoted fan of Wet Hot American Summer, I feel it's my duty to give top-billing to the equally hilarious The Ten. I'm not sure there was a more surreal comic moment last year than Liev Schreiber's competition with his neighbor over--what else--CAT-scan machines. I almost resent Ricky Gervais for not sticking with Extras a few more years. There are now only three funny shows left on TV. Between grief and Good Luck......

Despite early expectations that it would top $20 million in its opening weekend, The Heartbreak Kid failed to knock off The Game Plan at the box office. Though it's actually better than its fairly dismal reviews, The Heartbreak Kid could only muster $14 million in its debut frame, while The Game Plan reigned for the second straight weekend with $16.2M ($42.8M) and is now, unfortunately, a bona fide hit. Damn you, America! Can't you......

In yet another blow to the human race, Dwayne Johnson's The Game Plan was this weekend's box-office champ, taking in a richly undeserved 22.6 million dollars in its debut. You know what that means--an even worse sequel (assuming that's possible) is virtually certain to be made. Let's hope it goes straight to DVD and doesn't rob theater space from better, less life-affirming movies. In second place, also in its first weekend, was Peter Berg's......

To no one’s surprise, the awful Resident Evil: Extinction claimed the weekend box office crown, debuting with a surprisingly robust 24 million dollars and spanking the equally vapid Good Luck Chuck ($14M). While discerning patriots were sad to see Paul W.S. Anderson’s “vision” further validated, they were somewhat cheered by the continued deterioration of "comedian" Dane Cook’s film career. Also, failed starlet Jessica Alba is one flop closer to what now seems an inevitable,......

Blended drinks make me happy. They remind me of laying out on the beaches of Maui while soaking up the sun. The cold texture and gulping the last frothy bit from the glass are extra bonuses. A strawberry margarita is, hands down, my blended drink of choice. With that said, a well blended Good Luck drink from the Good Luck Bar in Los Feliz gives the strawberry margarita a run for its money. A......

- Pod Killer: 4 dolphins have been shot to death and discovered between Carlsbad State Beach and Oceanside Harbor between May 29 and June 5. - Tweaked: More police officers, extra cones, Scott Avenue, a lane on the 110 Freeway = better Dodger Parking? You be the judge. - Finally: The disputed Union Rescue Mission, which will serve more than 200 women and children off skid row and into transitional housing, can finally open its......

Hey Rockers, we have a cool contest for you today... Halloween weekend in Las Vegas there will be a two-day rock fest with dozens of bands and a crowd that loves to dress up in wild costumes. Every month, LAist ges together and has drinks. Lately, we've hit Atwater Village (The Roost), Los Feliz (Good Luck Bar), Hollywood (The Well) and West L.A. (Don Antonio's). Sometime next month, we will hit The Chimney Sweep in Sherman Oaks. It began last night at the W Hotel's Whiskey Blue with Gothamist, LLC head honcho Jake Dobkin. After many laughs and drinks, we got hungry. Too bad Noodle Planet was already closed. In-N-Out it......

There are very few better places to be on a Thursday night in LA than tucked away up in Griffith Park at the Greek Theater. And because we love you we want to give you all a pair of tickets to check out Bloc Party at the Greek next Thursday night. Unfortunately we've been blowing all our cash this summer on grillz. Lucky for you the good people at Vice flowed us one pair......

We think he's trying to figure out Hollywood math. The Randy Quaid lawsuit against the producers of Brokeback Mountain — they had him work cheap, but then spent big on marketing — has people looking at the mini-majors. How do they get to make those cool edgy films? By asking the actors to work for peanuts. And then, there's the wacky math. As explained to the NY Times: Good Night, and Good Luck, from......

Yep, that's Felicity Huffman, and yes, she wins Best Actress at the Independent Spirit Awards. Think she's got a shot at the Oscar? Sarah Silverman continues to knock it out of the park. And the attendees like her. "Finally there's an award show host that you'd wanna fuck," Kevin Smith says. He had a long dirty story to tell before announcing the best director winner. Best Foregin Film goes to Paradise Now, the only......

The Oscar nominations were announced this morning, and the gay cowboy lovestory leads the pack: Brokeback Mountain got 8 nominations. The 5 movies up for Best Picture are Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Munich, Good Night and Good Luck, and Crash, which just took the big prize at the SAG Awards Sunday night. One of our favorite categories this year is makeup, which pits the Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and the Chronicles of Narnia......

Horseraces! Handicaps! No sooner had we posted about the not-quiet-announced Oscar host than the SAG Award nominees were announced. The biggest surprise must be the nomination of Hustle & Flow in the "best performance by a cast" category (SAG's version of "best picture"), while none of the cast members were nominated individually. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Terrence Howard was robbed. Other than that, it's what you'd expect. Both leads......
