“This is the picture that I want to be remembered by," Charlie Chaplin said of his film, "The Gold Rush," when it opened. Subtitled “A Dramatic Comedy,” the film finds Chaplin portraying a lone prospector who searches for love and acceptance in the frenzy of the great Klondike gold rush. The flick contains many of Chaplin’s most celebrated comedy sequences, including the boiling and eating of his shoe, the dance of the dinner rolls, and the teetering cabin.

Neil Young @ Nokia Theater - 10/30/07 and 11/2/07

"American Experience" (PBS, 9:00 p.m.) Finally one about California - the Gold Rush starts in 1848 when...
La Vida Livingston
There's something about L.A. and Southern California in general that's in the mining tradition. I think a lot of the (film-industry stuff) is an outgrowth of the Gold Rush mentality. People come out here for the opportunity, but a lot of times they lack community. None of those miners actually got along with each other; they were all digging for the same shit. I don't feel that as much over on the east side...
