Part gypsy punk, part Cirque du Soleil, part strip tease, all entertainment, Gogol Bordello is the live show you want to see again and again. On tour to celebrate their new album Trans Continental Hustle, the troupe hit Downtown LA's Mayan this past Tuesday to a sold out crowd. Fans threw shirts and water bottles with the hopes that front man Eugene Hütz would bring out his bottle of red wine (he did) and get shirtless (he did), moshing and crowd surfing in appreciation. For their loyalty, Gogol Bordello treated them to a seemingly endless stream of energy, including a multi-song encore that kept the crowd there to the last notes of the 2+ hour set concluded as it began, with Hütz alone on stage with his acoustic guitar, strumming the last chords of the haunting and frenetic "Alcohol". more ›

Tonight NY-based gypsy punk outfit Gogol Bordello will be concluding a two-night stint at the Mayan in Downtown. Canadian indie rock quintet Stars are poised to kick off a two-night, sold-out stint at the Troubadour. And, lastly, Highland Park's own experimental rockers Seasons will be headlining the Echo, ringing in their latest EP, 2010's Winter. Tonight NY-based protopunk rockers New York Dolls will be headlining the Henry Fonda Music Box. NY's own gypsy punk outfit Gogol Bordello are poised to kick off the first concert ever at the newly-restored, art deco style Fox Theater in Pomona, which used to serve as a movie palace in the '30s before falling into disrepair. Local buzz band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (LAist Review) will be opening the aforementioned show. And, lastly, NY-based pop rock act the Virgins (LAist Interview, Review) will be gracing the El Rey Theatre with San Diegan singer-songwriter Anya Marina (LAist Review) and ruddy-haired bombshell Lissy Trulie (LAist Review) in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch South African experimental rockers BLK JKS, who have been heralded as the TV on the Radio of their hemisphere (and rightfully so). The greatest surprise performance at the 24-hour Live Earth was not Kanye West and John Mayer joining the Police on "Message in a Bottle." Hell, no.
