An 8-year-old girl remains listed in stable condition at Children's Hospital today after she was "wounded in crossfire during a shootout between LAPD narcotics officers and three suspects," according to the Daily News. Lykke Li, Anna Ternheim @ El Rey, May 19

I don't know if it was all those Ikea fish eggs I consumed this weekend, but I was definitely ready to be in a Swedish frame of mind Monday night at the El Rey, where Anna Ternheim and Lykke Li opened for El Perro Del Mar. All three artists are representing a new wave of Scandinavian indie pop, with danceable rhythms, melancholic lyrics, and a moody, sensual sound that feels like a cold, fresh breeze on the pop landscape. Abba they ain't, but Robyn sure likes to hang with them. more ›

Football Flaunts An F-bomb

Football Flaunts An F-bomb

While this is hardly the first time a bare midriff and cheap dye-job have swayed an otherwise discerning focus, we at LAist would like to commend this cameraperson for their pro-obscenity stance and their “fair & balanced” coverage of today's Eagles/Saints game. Bravo. Down with FCC regulation. Down with sportsmanship. Down with spelling. Up with people. Go Birds. Photos by Jeremy Weinstein... more ›
