Tonight In Rock: Wanda Jackson, Iron And Wine, White Lies, Cold War Kids

Tonight South Carolina-bred folk maestro Iron and Wine will be performing for free, in-store at Amoeba Music in Hollyweird before taking on the Wiltern for two nights. English alternative rock trio White Lies, who recently released their sophomore endeavor, Ritual, are poised to take on the Troubadour with none other than local hard rock duo Giant Drag. And, lastly, Long Beach-bred indie rock stalwarts the Cold War Kids (LAist Review, #2) will be taking on the Bootleg Theater with Grouplove in anticipation of their forthcoming third album, 2011's Mine Is Yours. But we strongly suggest heading over to the El Rey Theatre to catch Oklahoma-bred singer-songwriter Wanda Jackson, the First Lady of Rockabilly and America's first female Rock and Roll singer, who is touring in support of her latest Jack White-produced endeavor—2011's The Party Ain't Over. more ›

The Jesus and Mary Chain @ Wiltern 10/24/07

Marking the first Los Angeles appearance since 1998 (when legend has it members of the Scottish alternative rock band decided to part ways), last night The Jesus and Mary Chain headlined after opening acts Evan Dando and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Earlier this year the band reunited, playing a show at Coachella that seemed to elicit more mentions about Scarlett Johansson on stage than the actual music. If the performance at the Wiltern yesterday... more ›

The Lemonheads @ The El Rey, 4/25

If you're a dude you wanna hate Evan Dando for his flowing long locks and his runway model looks and his lack of irony of wearing an old school Lou Reed tshirt and Vans. But then he plugs in that SG and does his little stoney version of shredding and you sip your beer and chill the hell out. The Lemonheads are the Goo Goo Dolls without any aspiration. They're the sober man's Replacements.... more ›

The Grates @ Spaceland 11/14/06

Patience Hodgson had no patience. It wasn't even 15 minutes into The Grates' set at Spaceland Tuesday when she ran out into the crowd, made everyone form a circle and started dancing in the center with her ribbon-stick. Controlling the universe with school girl glee and giddy excitement. The happiest music to have come out this year was played in its entirety at the Silver Lake club as every track of the trio's "Gravity... more ›

Coachella - Sunday Preview

We have many fond memories from Coachellas past, but right now we're totally jealous of that Lollapalooza lineup. Sunday tickets are sold out. You'll either have to buy a two-day pass or take your chances in the secondary market. more ›
