Gary Sinise, the actor who played Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, must have been moved by his 1994 turn as a veteran who loses both legs -- he's hoping to hold a benefit concert in Temecula to raise funds for a man who had three limbs amputated after fighting in Afghanistan.

DVD Tuesday: America, We Have a Problem!
You know it's a slow day at the DVD counter when the highlight of the week is a Blu-Ray release of a fifteen year-old film. Sure Apollo 13 is a solid flick -- maybe even Ron Howard's best -- but the prospect of seeing it again doesn't particularly get my juices going. As a fan of Richard Curtis, I wish I could recommend Pirate Radio, but the comedy in it just seems a little forced and dated. Woody Harrelson is, of course, a demigod in my eyes so Defendor was required viewing when it originally hit theaters. Check it out.
TV Junkie: Drew on Letterman; Robin Williams on Conan; New 'Lost'; 2 Get the Boot on 'Idol'
A Word or 4 dozen : Somehow I totally missed posting that the Shield was on last night and again it was good. I think one would be hard-pressed to find more raw and compelling performances on any other show available on the networks or basic cable. Being a former SF resident, I haven't been able to get enough of Conan's broadcast from the Orpheum theater on Market Street- too bad that's still bum-junkie...
The week in -ist
Shanghaiist probably knows a little more about China than the Chicago Sun-Times. Giving them the benefit of the doubt on that one. The city does to have a music scene. Don't even front like they don't. They also have Dorito bananas and white guys shopping for wives. What they don't have is any more tolerance for jaywalkers.
