If you thought maybe you'd turn your lunchtime into a nod to National Burger Month by picking up one of those ubiquitous combo meals, this buzz-killing infographic produced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention illustrates just how much bigger an average American burger-fries-soda combo has gotten since 1950.

Is it Lunchtime Yet? The Internet Says It's National Chili Day.
How does a big bowl of chili sound right about now? Hey--it can be vegetarian chili, we don't judge. Perhaps you prefer your chili smothering a burger (Tommy's run, anyone?) or blanketing fries (where's the Frysmith truck?) or oozing atop a hot dog (Pink's, perhaps?). Look, it's just a suggestion. And while chili isn't typically the prettiest of foods, it does spark loyalty, and might elicit a craving. Happy National Chili Day!
Which Fast Food Chain Makes the Best French Fries?
Inquiring minds want to know: Which of the fast food chains operating here in Southern California make the best french fries? Actually, it is the Fast Food Maven at the OC Register who is wondering, and you can chip in with your pick in their poll. Wendy's is about to debut a "hotter, crispier" box of fried starchy goodness that are "skin-on fries seasoned with sea salt." Sea salt! How chic! Meanwhile, you might be a loyalist (McDonald's), a purist (In-N-Out), or non-conformist (Jack in the Box's curly fries). However, we can't fathom who would select "tube steak smothered in underware [sic]" from the list. You must really hate fries.
Meet the Grill 'Em All Truck: Burgers That Rock on the Road
Is there anything more rock and roll than hitting the road with a bunch of people and facing new crowds of fans every day with the goal of giving them their fill of the great stuff you've got to offer?

New Greek Food Truck Brings Gyros, Honey Feta Fries & More to the Streets
The ever-so fast expanding world of L.A.'s new food truck culture grew last night with the addition of Louks to Go, a Greek based truck serving up gyros, salads, fries and Greek donuts known as Loukoumades. A tasting last night proved this truck as a serious contender for streetside lines.
Meet the Frysmith Truck: Fries with Grilled Meats, Kimchi, Vegan Toppings & More...
This Friday night, another long-awaited food truck will hit the streets. Meet Frysmith, a creation of Erik Cho, who loves one of America's favorite foods: delicious, greasy and tasty fries. Yes, fries with meat, with vegan chili, with kimchi, with chicken or with beef. And, oh yeah, there are sweet potato fries, too.
Ruby's Shake Shack Opens on the Historic Malibu Pier
Last Sunday we urged you to Get Out and get yourself some free burgers, fries, and shakes from Ruby's Shake Shack at their Grand Opening party. Ruby's Shake Shack is indeed part of the Ruby's chain, but it's a chain with a lot of local history (the first one opened on the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach in 1982, styled like a classic 40s diner and named for the owner's mom).
More Dog Days of Our 2nd Summer: Vicious Dogs
This hot weather is way more summer than fall--par for the course here in LA, true--and that means we can keep acting like it's summertime. And eating like it's summertime. Back in the actual summertime, LAist wondered why the Weekly's esteemed Jonathan Gold had a dog face, as he ruminated about hot doggeries about town, and it wasn't long after that we, too, were inspired to get our hot dog on.
Blissfully Destroy Your Stomach at the LA County Fair
If yesterday's photo gallery of all the deep fried food to be found at the LA County Fair was not enough for you, then check this $8 brick of cheese fries out. Tip: the easiest way to eat it is to pick it up like a sandwich go nom nom nom...
Celebrating the Sun at Beechwood
Some of us are feeling a little sunned out these days. But no one is ever tired of sunsets. The day is beginning to cool and suddenly everything turns gold, then the sun is gone and the thick summer twilight rules, with its astonishing array of colors. It's tough to find a place in LA to enjoy sunsets, with a laid back attitude and good food. Beechwood is one of those places.
