A suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting spree on California Highway 163 that wounded a 21-year-old University of San Diego student on her way to class earlier this month, reports LA NOW. A freeway shooting in Orange County this morning might have been triggered by some road rage, police tell the LA Times. Around 5:37 a.m. at the Penn Way 5 freeway on-ramp in Santa Ana, the suspect was apparently angered that a car was in front of him, so he rolled down the window and fired, hitting the other driver in the arm. The man who was shot while driving a Bentley on the 101 Freeway last Friday morning in downtown has been identified after he died yesterday at the hospital. The victim is identified as Jose Luis Macias. “We have not seen a freeway shooting in quite some time,” said Lt. Paul Vernon, commanding officer of the Central Detective Division, in a statement. “And this case really stands out in the number of rounds fired at the victim’s car and the kind of car the victim was driving.” Detectives are still looking for leads on finding any more information regarding the case. “This is a real whodunit,” said Vernon. more ›

A 19-year-old woman was shot and killed early this morning when exiting the northbound 110 Freeway at the West Slauson Avenue Offramp. Only one witness has come forward so far for the 12:30 a.m. shooting. He said at least five shots were fired and a truck was seen fleeing the area. After noticing a car had sat still on the off-ramp for many light cycles, the witness investigated and found Samantha Padilla dead inside. more ›
