Map(s) of the Day: Claim Your Fallen Fruit Here!

As GOOD is so great to point out, LA is a mecca for homegrown products. (No, not that. Well, yes, that, but that's not what they/we mean!) Fallen Fruit keeps track of where Angelenos can play gatherer on our own city streets. GOOD explains:

FallenFruit.org has neighborhood maps of publicly accessible fruit trees. They also have a great guide to creating your own fruit gathering map. Tips range from the obvious (get out of your car and walk, you’ll find more fruit) to the specific (you should take note of that young fruit tree on private property—it might eventually grow to reach public property.) If more people create maps for other cities, Fallen Fruit could become one of the more delicious free resources on the web.
Right now on the site they have maps they've made spotlighting resources in Larchmont, Sherman Oaks, Hancock Park, Silver Lake, Claremont, and Echo Park, as well as access to a Platial interactive map where users can contribute locations and join the conversation. Happy picking!

The weekend is here so lots of free stuff is on tap for the L.A. Film Festival. The Festival Promenade on Broxton will be taken over by Family Day activities. A sure to be congested after-party follows the screening.

With a weekend 3-game sweep of the elderly San Francisco Giants under their collective belt, the Dodgers (4-2) open their regular season home schedule at Dodger Stadium this afternoon against the Colorado Rockies (3-3). Prized off-season acquisition Jason Schmidt (1-0) is scheduled to start, and his first pitch is scheduled for 1:10pm. For those taking an extra long lunch today (and you know who you are, as this one's already sold out), here's what to know in advance of today's home opener:

Being a high-stakes online journalist is brutal, brain-taxing, soul-bruising work. But every now and then you get the little bit of recognition (read: free stuff) that makes it all worthwhile. On Friday I had the chance to attend the Haven/Elle magazine pre-Oscars "gifting suite" along with LAist's own Lisa B.* We made our way to the hills of Beverly Hills and after fighting our way through a forest of monstrous Cadillac Escalades -- what...

Why is this LAist reader smiling? Maybe it's because she's going to the Flaming Lips + Gnarls Barkley + Cat Power show tonight at the spanking brand new Galen Center at USC. And she won the sweet new dvd 40 Bands 80 Minutes about the punk rock fest that went down at Il Corral this year. And she won the hilarious new dvd of stand up comedy by Pablo Francisco "Ouch - Live From...

Had enough of Oprah? Sick of Maury? Wish that you knew exactly what kind of medical degree that Dr. Phil guy actually has? Well fret no more fellow Angelenos. Our humble little town is about to be blessed by the presence of greatness. That’s right: "The View" is coming to L.A.! (Insert happy TV Theme music here)

Okay, so the Grove may not have booked J-Lo, who's kind of like the Tiffany of today, but they do have K-Lo and L-Lo. That's "American Idol" Kimberly Locke and soundtrack songstress Lisa Loeb to you. They'll be performing live this Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
