Automated luxury store, U*tique, just opened up its first location ever in Fred Segal Santa Monica. It's lux-o-matic, interactive, insta-matic just don't call it a vending machine. Although that's basically what this fancy-schmancy machine does. Except instead of dispensing cheesy puffs, it sells 50 upscale beauty items, indulgences and lifestyle products like Aira mink eyelashes, Bliss triple oxygen mask, David Kirsch Wellness detox kit, GoSmile smile brightening system and ModelCo tan in a can to name just a few.
At 21 years old, less than two months new to town, living in my cousin’s back room in the deep valley, making love to a Thomas Guide every night, with zero frame of reference for my situation, I embark on a film career. My first break, an independent film, hires me to be their production secretary. What’s that? I don’t know either. Here’s what I do know. The production office is at 6th and Alameda...

Welcome Social Atelier, a new fashion line that is having their launch party tonight and will be sold in...

But we grow weary of having the news foisted on us by the media. Already, there's been news bits about the $38,390 basket of love awaiting Golden Globe presenters and soon we will hear all about the goodies awaiting celebs and their handlers at Sundance or in town for the awards season (why doesn't some enterprising young publisher just compile all the press releases on what celeb received which complimentary doodad this time and publish a periodical called "Swagazine").
In addition to predictable plugs for impossibly posh services offered by the likes of Time and Place Homes, which rents luxury vacation properties, or high-end T shirts by Landes Daily at Fred Segal Fun, the magazine cites Cooks Library bookstore on Third Street as the place stars head to "when they want to be creative in the kitchen."
The Fall Fashion issue of the August 15, 2004 Los Angeles Times Magazine provides LAist with much to chew on (and spit out in disgust).
